Rajani enters into not-quite-best friendship with Australian firm Rockwell

Rajani-Rockwell: Not tied up in knot
Rajani-Rockwell: Not tied up in knot
Mumbai firm Rajani Associates has entered into a non-exclusive referral agreement with Australian boutique firm Rockwell Bates, which was not a “best friend relationship” the firm stressed.

“The association is of mutual referral and there is neither any exculsivity nor any ‘best friend’ relationship,” Rajani managing partner Prem Rajani said, according to the Australia-based legal publication Asia Legal Business today.

“We will have access to local laws of Australia through Rockwell Bates and we can recommend our clients to engage the services of Rockwell Bates while dealing in Australia (though this does not restrict us from recommending other firms in Australia). Likewise Rockwell Bates will enjoy the same benefits when it comes to India,” Rajani added.

According to Asia Legal Business, Rockwell Bates director Adam Levine said that the firms “shared a close connection”, having worked closely together on several matters.

Rajani told the magazine: “The fact that each firm shares a common focus of being a ‘trusted advisor’ to their respective clients and so in placing our own clients in the hands of the other firm, we can feel comfortable that our own clients will be looked after as we would ourselves.”

Rajani was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.

Melbourne-based Rockwell Bates specialises in corporate advisory work to “listed and unlisted middle market corporate clients and investment banks” in M&A, private equity, finance and other commercial advice, as well as “complex litigation” according to its website.

AZB & Partners and ALMT Legal broke off best friendships with Clifford Chance and Clyde & Co respectively earlier this year.
