Platinum expands partnership to 5 from Mumbai

Exclusive: Platinum Partners has promoted Mumbai senior associate Yashasvi Mohanram to its partnership, who joined the firm last year from White & Case Singapore.

Platinum co-founding partner Karam Daulet-Singh said: “When Yash came on board in September I was quite confident that he was partner level [and] he has proved himself very rapidly.”

Mohanram added: “It’s been very busy and very good in the eight months since I’ve been back here.”

According to Daulet-Singh, Mohanram had worked on two over $100m private equity transaction and one large chemical sector strategic acquisition since starting at the firm, although deal details were confidential.

Mohanram’s promotion will take effect from 1 April and will increase the size of Platinum’s partnership to five, of whom two are in Delhi.

With 17 associates, Daulet-Singh said that the firm followed a “fairly conservative” leverage ratio between partners and associates. “Whilst there probably is room for some more leverage in the existing partner set up we want to be conservative by and large.”

He added that the firm had also been working hard on building a competition law merger control practice he would head in Delhi, with the Competition Commission of India (CCI) having the power to veto mergers and acquisitions from 1 June.
