Naik Naik & Co nestles up to Bollywood with Andheri ‘burb office; Parel & Delhi in offing

Exclusive: Naik Naik & Company, as it will be now known after a rebranding effective tomorrow, has opened up a new office focusing on media law in Andheri in order to be closer to Bollywood studio clients, while finalising a third Mumbai office in mid-town and preparing to open in Delhi.

The new 2,000 square foot office is based on Veera Desai Road in Lokhandwala and will be headed by Naik partner Madhu Gadodia and senior associate Ravi Suryawanshi.

Gadodia said that the office would begin with at least five to six lawyers initially, with the South-Mumbai Nariman Point office supporting the practice, which was near to most of the major Bollywood houses and production studios.

She added that while it was going to be a boutique media law office, it would also handle other work including real estate, corporate and litigation if required.

The firm’s managing partner Ameet Naik said: “We want to be one of the first major law firms to start a full scale office in the suburbs and the idea is to take it to the same level as this office in South Mumbai.”

“We want to operate in three different locations in the city. In midtown we are going to take a very large space between Parel and Worli.” He said that alongside the existing office in Nariman Point, it was a “huge expansion” in excess of 5,000 square feet, and four lateral senior associates would be joining the firm from Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.

According to Naik, the firm was also planning to open a full-fledged Delhi office by the end of the year, with three people currently working in temporary offices in Delhi for the firm.

The firm has rebranded to its original name Naik, Naik & Co after the departure of lateral partner Ashok Paranjpe and his team to another Mumbai law firm. They had joined Naik in May 2010 from Wadia Ghandy to create Naik Paranjpe & Company.

Vidhii Partners started a media and film law practice in Bandra in December of last year.
