Luthra & Fox lawyer litigation start-up Pamasis grows to three equal partners

Pamasis Law, the former Luthra & Luthra and Fox Mandal associates’ litigation firm started up in August of last year, has grown to three partners and two associates in a first formal office space.

Legally India had reported last year that an NLU Jodhpur 2008 graduate Sameer Jain had quit his associate position at Luthra & Luthra to start-up the litigation and tax advisory practice Pamasis, with his brother Sidhharth Jain who had formerly worked with Fox Mandal.

The two were working from their Noida home at the time, as Sidhharth also continued assisting a Noida-based senior lawyer.

In January of this year Delhi-based advocate Sandeep Bajaj, who had been working with the Jains on a case by case basis since the inception of Pamasis, merged his civil and corporate litigation practice with the start-up bringing with him one fresher-level associate.

Sameer told Legally India that profits at the firm would be equally distributed between Bajaj, Sidhharth and himself.

Bajaj graduated from Punjab University Chandigarh in 2007, assisted Delhi advocate Atul Nanda until 2009 and thereafter senior advocate Amarjit Singh Chandhiok until January 2012 when he started out on his own.

Another associate-level retainer also joined Pamasis in December and the firm took a new office in Jangpura Extension in South Delhi.

“Lots of work has come in since December, primarily litigation and government advisory [including] customs, [intellectual property], and land acquisition matters. We have lots of civil suits primarily at the [Delhi] high court and Supreme Court level, and we’re handling writ petitions,” said Sameer adding, “We haven’t had the time to go out and market ourselves since referrals are churning so much work.”

Sameer said that now while he will take charge of the tax advisory work at the firm, Sidhharth would look after litigation on the original side including civil suits, and writs, appeals and special leave petitions will be the forte of Bajaj.
