Exclusive: IndusLaw has promoted Hyderabad principal associate Satya Sree Akella to salaried partner effective 1 April.

Akella, who is a 1999 graduate from Osmania University Hyderabad, joined the Bangalore office of IndusLaw as a senior associate in late 2007 from Universal Legal, and set up the five-lawyer strong Hyderabad office of the firm in 2008.

She will continue heading the Hyderabad office and specialises in private equity transactions for the company and promoter side.

She was elevated to principal associate in 2010 when the pre-partner “grooming” rung was created to precede partnership.

Bangalore co-founding partner Suneeth Katarki said that IndusLaw would plan to continue growing its Hyderabad base gradually.

Akella, who is on leave this month, was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.

IndusLaw has also promoted Lomesh Nadumuri to principal associate in Bangalore. He joined the firm in January 2010 and specialises in litigation.

“Promotion to a principal associate means that as far as the firm is concerned, it has recognised that Lomesh is on a definitive track to partnership, and accordingly the firm will now prepare and groom Lomesh for a partnership role in the next few years,” stated the firm in an email.

Akella’s promotion has taken IndusLaw’s partnership size to nine, which will grow to 10 once former ICICI Bank general counsel (GC) Pramod Rao joins in June to start up the firm’s Mumbai office.
