Rajagopal: Clydes to Clasis Clyde & Co senior associate Sidanth Rajagopal has left to become a Delhi-based aviation partner at Clasis Law, the UK firm’s new Indian best friend law firm that split from ALMT Legal in April of this year.
Rajagopal, who had previously been heading Clyde’s Indian aviation practice from London, will relocate to Delhi to head up Clasis’ aviation practice as a partner.
Clasis was formed by ex-ALMT Mumbai partners Ishtiaq Ali and Renu Parekh and of counsel Damodar Rao, with Delhi partner Vineet Aneja and London partners Sakate Khaitan and Shalini Agarwal.
Clasis start-up team also included Clyde Dubai partner Abhimanyu Jalan.
Clasis Law took a new office in Mumbai’s Lower Parel-based One Indiabulls Centre area after starting up.

The firm is formed of the domain experts of every field whether it be Mr. Vineet Aneja who is a big name in M&A & General Corporate Advisory or whether it be Mr. Ishtiaq Ali who is a well name known in the field of Project Finance. The joining of Mr. Rajagopal is a signification move, moreover joining of two partners from Clyde & Co. within three months of formation of the firm is a clear signal of the firms success. All d best Clasis Law....!!
well done sidanth and wish you all the very best. speaks well of Clyde to have retained this talented young Indian lawyer and then convinced him to help them out in India.
Clydes India strategy is haphazard at best and a badly thought out case of "me too". Has anyone heard of Clydes in India?
And for the Clasis partners there is little rationale in tieing up with a firm like Clydes. That said Clasis don't have many mouths to feed in India nor will they for the foreseeable future in this best friendship.
6 years out of law school and a partner in a law firm - Have Indian firms lost it - what are they upto !!! - One side they intend to compete with the foreign law firms and on the second front they do such things. In any case..can such partner compete with the partners at the magic circle law firms?
On the other hand - Sid - I know you very well and heartiest congratulations on the same. Great Stuff!!!! It the best answer you can get to your critics at previous employers in India. All the best and hope you come out with flying colors.
Whole heartedly agree with the comment that partnership in 6 years is entirely out of the ordinary for any City Firm and this is no different for Clydes. Either Sidanth must be exceptionally good – which I am sure he is; else Classic Law is not following the Clydes way of election into partnership. I do have very good friends working at Clydes, all of whom have Oxbridge education, have trained at MC firms, and are exceptionally great lawyers in their respective fields. Even so that some have been laurelled by London legal press as up and coming. Be assured, that none these people are making partnership at Clydes London anywhere near 6 PQE. Hence query if Classic Law is actually following the Clyde’s way of election into partnership.
is that not the point here. partnership in London offices of global law firms is not exactly comparable to partnerships in Indian practices that are typically owned by a few individuals?
also there is no difference in quality between MC and other international city firms. This is unlike in India where certain large law firms may offer better quality than smaller older firms or newer upstarts.
at least Classis now has a partner trained with Clydes and can be trusted not only by CLydes but also by other international firms on quality parameter.
Sid's a star. In 6 yrs, he's possibly done 10 yrs worth of work. So lets not judge by PQE! In India, we all know, partners with PQE of 10 yrs and higher have knowledge comparable to a fresher.
Sidanth, Firstly will like to congratulate you!!! Its the best thing that Clyde could have done. Having dealt with you on several transacions over the years, you deserve every bit of this.
And for your CRITICS there is only one way "WATCHOUT"!!!:)
