All India Bar Exam (AIBE) unlikely before October; 4 agencies in running

AIBE: Takes time
AIBE: Takes time
The All India Bar Exam (AIBE) is not likely to be held before October, as the Bar Council of India (BCI) had received expressions of interest from four organisations.

A BCI source said that the regulator decided to postpone the AIBE because at least two or three months of preparation were required, to allow applicants to register for the AIBE, to distribute materials and so on.

The source said that no decision had yet been taken on who would conduct the exam, after four organisations, including Rainmaker, which conducted the first three AIBE’s, had applied for the contract that netted around Rs 4.8 crore to the private contractor.

Companies with experience in conducting other examinations are understood to have applied.

The BCI was “very serious” about conducting the exam and was making every effort to hone in on an agency.

The BCI had called for tenders from third-party “expert agencies” on 22 June, to assist it in conducting the exam. However, it is understood that no detailed bids have been received to date but only general expressions of interest, listing the credentials and expertise of the applicants.

Legal website Bar & Bench reported that Pearson Vue, which is conducting the LSAT admissions test for Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) and others, had also applied for the contract.
