AIBE: New, functioning helpline & if you’re a newbie, registration extended for 2 days

Breaking: The Bar Council of India (BCI) released a statement on its website that candidates who have enrolled as an advocate between 17 and 24 November 2012, could still register for the All India Bar Exam (AIBE) until 24 November.

The announcement by the BCI secretary stated:

It is notified that on the request received from various State Bar Councils/Applicants, the date of submission of AIBE- IV has been extended till 24th November, 2012. The extended date will only be applicable to those applicants who enroll themselves during the period from 17th November, 2012 to 24th November, 2012. Eligible candidates should pay fee of Rs. 1900/- through demand draft which should be in favour of “BAR COUNCIL OF INDIA” payable at New Delhi. The advocates would receive the application form along with the instruction sheet on their e-mail after which they need to register the application by calling the BCI helpline numbers i.e., 0120- 4897900, 4217086, 4217087 to get a unique application number. After completing this registration slip, along with the photograph, original demand draft, a certified copy of the enrollment certificate should be dispatched to the Bar Council of India on the address “ALL INDIA BAR EXAMINATION, BAR COUNCIL OF INDIA, 21, ROUSE AVENUE, INSTITUTIONAL AREA, NEW DELHI – 110002” so that it can reach the Bar Council of India on or before 25th November, 2012. It is made clear that registration slips received after 25th November, 2012 will be rejected without any action. Eligible applicants may contact on helpline for query. Candidature of such applicants is provisional subject to the realization of fees and fulfillment of other conditions prescribed by the Bar Council of India.

In a separate announcement, the BCI has also published three further AIBE helpline numbers on its website: 0120-4897900, 0120-4217086, and 0120-4217087.

At the time of going to press at 18:30, Legally India a person answered the helpline on the second of those numbers. He confirmed that the registration extension only applied to those who had enrolled between 17 and 24 November.

However, when asked for confirmation on the total number of applications received so far, he hung up after adding: “This is something confidential, I wouldn’t be able to tell you.”

The exam itself has been postponed several times, as has the exam application deadline, most recently to 15 November, or in some cases 20 November.
