Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM) will hold the Suresh and Bharati Shroff Memorial T20 Cricket League in Siri Fort Ground Delhi from 4 February - 11 March 2018 to be played in 15 matches over six weekends, between eight teams, including seven law firms, according to a press release from the firm.
SAM, AZB & Partners, Bar Council Association, J Sagar Associates (JSA), Khaitan & Co, Luthra & Luthra, Dua Associates and Trilegal will participate in the event, which is intended to commemorate 100 years since the founding of India’s former largest firm, Amarchand Mangaldas (AMSS).
The tournament is named after the late parents of CAM managing partner Cyril Shroff and SAM executive chairman Shardul Shroff; when Bharati Shroff passed away in 2014, her inheriting of her shares in the firm to Shardul, led to a protracted legal dispute and the break-up of the two brothers and AMSS as a firm.
We understand authoritatively from three sources that all major law firms, including Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, had been invited, but that the firm chose not to attend.
Cyril Amarchand had made it to the semi finals against ELP in the Masters Cup Cricket Tournament in Mumbai, which Khaitan & Co had decisively won in January 2018.
Veteran Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore would unveil the rotating silver trophy for the tournament winners at the opening ceremony on 4 February.
