Exclusive: Amarchand Mangaldas, AZB with international firms Jones Day and Penningtons advised Bharti Airtel on its $165m purchase of Qualcomm 4G spectrum licences in India, according to several sources close to the deal.
Amarchand Delhi partner Indermohan Singh, principal associate Kanchan Sinha, and associates Mayuri Roy and Habib Hussain, acted for Bharti on the transaction.
Pennington London partners Saionton Basu and Noel McMichael are understood to have assisted Bharti on English laws.
AZB & Partners Mumbai partner Ashwin Ramanathan and senior associate Bhavi Sanghvi and associate Roxanne Anderson acted for Qualcomm on Indian laws.
Jones Day Singapore partner-in-charge Sushma Jobanputra and associate Vinay Kurien acted for Qualcomm on non-Indian laws.
All lawyers on the deal were either unavailable for comment or declined to comment when contacted.
Bloomberg reported that Qualcomm’s India unit owns licenses and spectrum to operate in four telecommunications zones, with Bharti staging a full takeover of Qualcomm’s unit by the end of 2014. Qualcomm had acquired the 4G licenses, also known as long-term evolution (LTE), two years ago.
