Amarchand for FedEx in buy of AZB-rep’d logistics company

AZB & Partners and Amarchand Mangaldas Delhi have advised on the world’s largest express shipping company FedEx’s acquisition of Indian logistics services provider AFL Private Limited and its subsidiary Unifreight.

Amarchand Mangaldas Delhi partner Akila Agrawal led the team of lawyers for US-based company FedEx, also including principal associate Shruti Kinra and senior associates Sourav Kanti De Biswas.

AZB advised the seller group AFL with Mumbai partner Abhijit Joshi, assisted by senior associate Niren Patel leading the team. The legal work undertaken included drafting the transaction documents along with negotiating and advising on several deal related aspects, said AZB in a press realease.

The deal involved an acquisition of the entire warehousing, transportation services and express delivery business of AFL but a value was not disclosed. The buy-out would complete by February 2011 and aims to offer better domestic ground coverage and service offerings across the country for the buyer.

Financial advice was rendered by J P Morgan to FedEx and Evercore Partners and Ardashir Dubash to AFL.
