The news of GNLU-Harvard alum Rohin Bhatt asking the CJI Chandrachud to allow pronouns in court docs was reported all over the national media. Kudos to him for that. This is the model form he is proposing: https://static.theprint.in/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Appearance-Slip-Modified-2.pdf

The plea itself is absolutely valid and within the constitutional right to dignity. But a shocking report (currently the lead story on The Print website) says that Rohin got DEATH THREATS after these reports came out. This is shameful and shows the extent of homophiobia and transphobia in India today. One hopes CJI Chandrachud passes an order saying the following:

1. Plea by Rohin on pronouns upheld and covered within right to life.

2. Death threats to Rohin constitute a form of homophobic hate speech. Homophobic and transphobic hate speech is actionable under the law, just as caste and communal hate speech. the government must arrest those who made these threats.

With such an order CJ Chandrachud will become a hero and leave a lasting legacy.

Students at GNLU should look up to Rohin as a role model. Instead of being money-minded and joining CAM or SAM, he chose to become a human rights lawyer and activist. Also, after graduating from Harvard, he came back to serve the country when most people are dying to settle abroad.
Most people donโ€™t have money or part money to fill Harvard fees right after grad without actually working their ass off to get some own hard earned money. So please fuck off and let people make thier own way.
Declaring pronouns should be compulsory, not just before courts but in all settings. It is not just a form of communication to let people know which gender you choose to identify with, but it is also an important safeguard against misgendering . Misgendering is a form of structural violence that inflicts great trauma upon people. It is often done deliberately, as a form of hate speech by patriarchal bigots like Joe Rogan or TERFs like JK Rowling (this horrible woman is now writing detective stories portraying trans people as criminals). The typical defence is to say "I wasn't aware", but if declaring pronouns is compulsory then you cannot use this defence because you would have known.
Why is it necessary to say he/him or she/her after your name? Why can't we simply write Mr or Ms? Doesn't that identify your gender automatically?? I also don't see the point of this zie/zim business. Trans women who transitioned from male to women can surely be identified as Ms (e.g. Ms Caitlyn Jenner, who was formerly Mr Bruce Jenner) and likewise trans men who transitioned from women to male can be identified as Mr (e. g. Mr Elliot Page, who was formerly Ms Ellen Page).

AFAIK Mr or Ms is done already. So the whole campaign is pointless IMO.
โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ but hey, at least he'll be featured in forbes 30 under 30 โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ. so kudos i guess.
Quite unnecessary. Why can't the chosen pronoun be mentioned before the person's name and the court direct the same to be adhered to instead of all this fuss?

Where are the death threats? Links to reports, if any or just another smokescreen???
he is not the first one to suggest this, many people have done this previously. idk why is he being celebrated and why there are so many posts on him.....
No. He is the first lawyer in India to take such a step and write to the CJI. You are perhaps jealous he is getting so much media attention and acclaim?
Acclaim for what achievement exactly? For writing a letter on a topic that's been making rounds since quite some time now? This is insta-fad, not acclaim.
Been practicing in SC since 5 years, in the appearance slip, we always put Mr./Ms. ------.

This is a publicity stunt and nothing more.

Overworked juniors fill the slip and sign on behalf of AoRs. Court Masters don't even replicate the names correctly.

Apart from the Sr.Adv and AoR's name, no other name matters.l except to identify whose matter it is.
Lots of haters here. Rohin clearly says in the Print report that he got death threats. Why should he share these traumatic messages in public? Because the trolls of LI want too? This is a serious matter of homophobic violence and Rohin should be given police protection until the matter is heard.

As for the merits of the case, please understand that Mr/Ms is not the same as pronouns. You can be Mr but identify as she/her or ze/zer. Also, an Mx option is needed too.
Stop projecting your ignorance. It's not a matter to be heard anywhere but a request which you lot want enforced throughout. If any questions are raised, your retort is simply to label them as haters and trolls. Quite typical.

The second last line in your reply is enough to show that there is not much merit in your case.
Since you are quite concerned about the spectre of violence, why don't you or the concerned person approach the police for protection in this regard. Or does having to show something concrete and the lack of it negate this publicity stunt....
So many ignorant comments here!! Rohin is asking for pronouns to be declared, whereas you people are talking about patriarchal, heteronormative identifiers like Mr, Ms and Mrs. ๐Ÿ™„ Were you people sleeping in socio class??
1. Is Mx. also "patriarchial and heteronormative"?

2. Declare your pronouns if you want. Why force everyone to do the same?
Instead of adding pronouns, what would actually be welcome is making appearance slips entirely online (or whatever other way) - to ensure that no names are mischievously added to the order behind the AoR's back. THAT is a nuisance.
