Can someone please explain the scope of work of General Corporate teams of law firms and what exactly does their work consist of ?
Anything and everything related to companies.

Advisory mandates: Advice on proposed transactions, advice on secretarial matters, changes in the law, setting up a new business vertical etc

Transactional mandates: Getting deals done. Could include M&A, a promoter's exit, hostile takeovers, anything. Starts with due diligence (legal risk assessment), negotiation of the deal and provisioning for the risks identified and finally drafting transaction documents and closing the deal.
Yes, the contracts effectuating the transaction are drafted by GenCorp lawyers. The specific documents being drafted depend on the deal, but common ones include shareholders agreements, share purchase agreements, share subscription agreements, joint venture agreements etc
Thanks. So apart from the contracts relating to the transactions, do they take up any general contract drafting on their own like vendor agreements, sale agreement, NDAs etc. I am asking from the perspective of whether the experience in general corporate team of a firm would be considered good for in house positions.
yes it does involve drafting contracts and it is hard as anything easy is from the internet
law firms (T1/T2) offering assessment internships in gc teams to final years (non-nlu)
