Message from VC (edited from a long message to make it short):

Dr. Singhvi has signed an Endowment Agreement with O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) for the establishment of the “Singhvi Endowment” at Jindal Global Law School to the tune of Rs. 2 crores. The students of JGLS would be the primary beneficiaries of this extraordinarily generous philanthropic initiative. This initiative, inter alia, pays homage to the memory of Dr. L.M. Singhvi, the eminent diplomat, parliamentarian, jurist and author. .....

In his message on the announcement of the Singhvi Endowment, Dr. Abhishek M. Singhvi, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India & Member of Parliament, observed, “I am most excited to announce the establishment of the Singhvi Endowment at Jindal Global Law School of O.P. Jindal Global University. JGU and JGLS have been at the forefront of promoting excellence in legal and higher education in India. The fact that JGU and JGLS have been recognised as India’s first ranked private university and India’s first ranked law school respectively and indeed, consistently for three years in a row by the QS World University Rankings demonstrates the stellar national and international reputation of this national 'institution of eminence'. ...."

The Singhvi Endowment will have five major components to it:

• Dr. Abhishek M. Singhvi Outstanding Youth Scholarship
...
• Mrs. Anita Singhvi Outstanding Youth Scholarship
...
• Dr. Abhishek M. Singhvi Academic Award and Gold Medal for Outstanding Academic Performance in Administrative Law

....
• Dr. L.M. Singhvi Annual Global Conference on International Law and International Relations
...
• Dr. L.M. Singhvi Memorial Annual Lecture Series
....
This just sucks. Middle class students at NLUs are barely making ends meet while rich students at the fanciest and most elite law school get a scholarship. Why couldn’t he donate to an NLU?
Ah yes, the 'why not an NLU troll.' Well, here is a simple reason: because NLUs are supposed to be funded by tax money, Jindal is not. If you want more money for NLUs, elect a better government.
That’s an idiotic answer. Jindal is a for profit university that already charge their students an obscene fee. If they want to provide scholarships to their students they can certainly afford to. Singhvi essentially just gave this money to Naveen Jindal. NLUs are state run institutions that are not for profit. They cater to a small group of law students and are unlikely to attract major funding simply because state governments are not incentivised to fund such small universities.

Even if he didn’t want to fund NLUs- he could have built libraries or hell just fed starving kids. This was a completely useless thing to do if one were being charitable.
I wonder where all this money came from and if it was all paid up on tax.

The guy makes as much in two days, if not one - in white.
Contrary to what 99% of LI thinks, JGU is a NON-PROFIT institution - it is not a business like Jindal Steel.

If you go to the 'About us' page of OP JGU, 'non-profit' is literally the first phrase used to describe the university.

Of course. The fact that it pays many people for doing things that only profit orientated institutions do, and hence incur expenses on that ground isn't relevant at all. Nor is the fact that it serves as a huge tax write off for Jindal himself.
Tax write off is a different issue, but what is an example of your first allegation? That JGLS 'pays many people for doing things that only profit orientated institutions do'? Do things like what?
Dr. Singhvi's scholarship would help poor students studying in jgls 😭❤️.

They would be able to upgrade from IPhone 13 to IPhone 14 when the fee burden reduces.

God Bless Singhvi Sir
how about endowments are given to smaller private law schools that don't have the mass resources like Jindal?
Very disappointed in Dr Singhvi. As a politician and public figure he should have given to NLUs and not rich JGLS students who have all the privileges in life.
To be fair, the scholarship may allow non-rich students to study at JGLS, which won't be that bad a thing.
You must be proud of Cyril Shroff that donated ..some amount....to Oxford University
Should have donated to an NLU. Jindal students are mega rich.
Thank God,someone has respect for Indian universities and some understanding of peoples needs locally.Otherwise at the other end of spectrum is one Cyril Shroff who exploits the Indian advocates to the bone but gives scholarship not disclosing amount to a foreign university.Dr AMS proves how senior Advicotes of Court are much better than publicity vulture MPs of corporate law firms.
