Kian please do not censor this!

The admin is literally turning a blind eye to the student concerns. We do not even have the basic needs being taken care of adequately. Some of the major issues are:

1) Wi-fi speed is very low. We get 0.5-1 mbps speed hardly. Can't even chat properly with someone. Forget anything else.
2) Washrooms are dirty and completely unhygienic. No proper cleaning and majority of the doors do not have locks. Plus, in the academic block the washrooms are kept locked. I have to walk 5-10 mins to pee.
3) No network in boys hostel. People having a Jio connection are completely disconnected because they do not get mobile network and wifi is of no use.
4) Not enough water coolers
5) Mess food is horrible. I doubt if it is even of edible quality.
6) Gym equipments are broken.

This is just a short list of otherwise many problems. The new director had made huge promises when he joined back in 2019 which by the way also included air-conditioning of the hostels. Instead, the quality of life has only degraded here. This is after the college increased the fees by 40k this year. The college has enough funds to build a lavish villa like residence for the director but when it comes to basic needs of the students, they are all deaf-ears.

Bimpa was really better ig.
Wow.
Here I thought that GNLU was the most well-funded NLU in the sphere being Motabhai's state. Now, I think NLUD is the undisputed champ in terms of funds (thanks to AILET).
Regardless of which, I was unable to grasp the purpose of the thread. I mean at present, LI is not the best platform to raise your concern and bring administrial reforms. You should try twitter though :)
One random person states something and look at you believing in everything.

GNLU is ofcourse not perfect but still far good in terms of everything
While I agree to the wifi issue, rest all of the things are cooked up. As far as funds are concerned, we are still the most funded among all NLUs. This is just some random troll criticizing the college.
The point is not about funds, but how well and appropriately you use those. Some people build swimming pools, some fund students for representing the university in global contests or provide scholarships for the meritorious and needy.
Absolute nonsense being spread by people with an agenda. GNLU is one of the largest NLU campuses and probably has the best infrastructure among all NLU campuses. Yes, I do admit there are some difficulties but it is because of adapting from 2 years of the Covid crisis. But things cannot return to normal overnight.

I will address the so-called grievances one by one.

1) Wi-fi speed is very low. We get 0.5-1 mbps speed hardly. Can't even chat properly with someone. Forget anything else.

The speed becomes slow because many students are downloading movies 24x7 and taking away the bandwidth. But even then the speed is more than enough for doing research. Perhaps it is not enough for doing chatting on Omegle or watching Netflix, but that is not the priority now. But it will be addressed anyway soon. From the side of the students kindly stop downloading movies all the time. It is like people dumping garbage on the street all the time and then complaining that the street is dirty.

2) Washrooms are dirty and completely unhygienic. No proper cleaning and majority of the doors do not have locks. Plus, in the academic block the washrooms are kept locked. I have to walk 5-10 mins to pee.

Maintenance work is sometimes going on because the machines get defective after not being used (because of Covid). No one has to walk for 10 minutes, kindly do not exaggerate!

3) No network in boys hostel. People having a Jio connection are completely disconnected because they do not get mobile network and wifi is of no use.

It is not the university's fault if Jio has a weak signal. You may try Airtel. Regarding the wi-fi, see the early response. Stop downloading movies and the speed will be excellent.

4) Not enough water coolers

More can be installed but you can also take water in jugs and keep in your room.

5) Mess food is horrible. I doubt if it is even of edible quality.

It is a common complaint across all NLUs. But do you expect 5 star hotel food in a hotel which charges 1 star prices? If you want gourmet food like JGLS then there should be a commensurate rise in fees also.

6) Gym equipments are broken.

Any gym equipment will get broken if unused for 2 years. It has happened all over the world. It will be addressed. Meanwhile you can stay fit by running or jogging in the open, which is the best exercise there is.
Interesting that you are not denying even one of the accusations. All in all, seems like a shit place only
If this response doesn't show everything that is wrong with GNLU, IDK what would.
We need the basics to be covered in all NLUs.

People shouldn't be complaining about things like food, lodging, wifi and loos.

This is not acceptable for any NLU.
You do realise that food, lodging and loos and arguably Wi-Fi all count as basics.
Suck it up. I was in the first batch of GNLU and we did not have a lot of the luxuries you have now
I am from the second batch of GNLU. We did not have the massive campus unlike the new campus but we were content with everything that old NIFT academic building had to offer and the halls of residences in government quarters. The administration then was walking an extra mile to resolve any issue that was identified by students. Being part of the start up then in 2005, we also were a bit considerate and shared the common goal to uplift the stature of GNLU. Of course there were some issues that never went away but that is bound to happen in country like India for various reasons (budget, staff shortage, employee morale, red tape and what not - across the board).

Students would need to channelize their concerns to the registrar and whoever else they think calls the actual shots at GNLU on these topics. There is no dearth of funding for sure so the right level of attention from administration should help you all out. Ranting out on social media will not get you much, I tell'ya! If you all want to enjoy the campus facilities then it would require a responsible and judicious use of available resources eg. wifi for non-stop streaming and movie downloads are not helpful. Not saying students are to be blamed for all these. Gather like minded students who are interested in solving the problem (not just rant), identifying causes and follow up with administration. All the best!
I guess you are not in tune with the administration today. They'll walk an extra mile to ensure that they don't listen and act on student concerns.
Facts of cleanliness are correct. No regular proper cleaning in hostel. Wifi is big problem though admin has excuse as always. AC in mess installed but randomly work. Huge expenditure on bunglow in many Cr for adding luxury but no focus on students affairs. Huge funding for new campus in silavasa as heard from staff but no attention to us. Majority hostel staff work part time for other maritime university in campus. We pay handsome fee so we expect reasonable services.
These are serious problems but Iam confident that someone of adm will justify all these as above.
200 students all downloading House of the Dragon simultaneously (that too on pirated sites) and then complaining about slow internet and badmouthing the VC. What wonderful specimens we have at GNLU.
Bhai 1000 log hai college me aur hafte me 1 episode aata hai. Wifi 24*7 bandh jaisa hai. Excuse toh dhang se do yaar
Majority administration staff and good size of teachers has part time job for maritime university and earn good amount ..means no attention to us... only attention to money.
Currently.

1. The wifi issue is continuously raised with the wardens as well as the ICT department but wifi is never available whenever their is a project submission deadline and the mobile data never works properly.

2. There is severe issue with mobile data range primarily because of how the hostels are constructed, most of the rooms are below the ground.

3. Food- wise, gnlu caters okay-ish food though it would definitely not be recommended to be healthy as it does not offer vegetables or fruits other than cucumber.

4. Cleanliness of hostels. None of the didis or cleaning people are ever around when we come back after classes. So, it is very difficult to get the rooms cleaned regularly.

5. The faculty wardens and the grievance council are a fixture which is of no help to anyone. Despite many complains with regards to unhygienic conditions and wifi issues, they have done nothing to assuage the students.
Dear Shantha

Kindly introspect on the following :-

1) Wi-fi speed is very low. We get 0.5-1 mbps speed hardly. Can't even chat properly with someone. Forget anything else: sexting, watching porn, netflixing etc. are not entitlements in college. For work, there is something called books.

2) Washrooms are dirty and completely unhygienic. No proper cleaning and majority of the doors do not have locks. Plus, in the academic block the washrooms are kept locked. I have to walk 5-10 mins to pee: why are locks needed in guys bathrooms? just keep the door closed and/or tie a sock or a sign outside saying occupied. This is India - creative solutions to everyday problems is our hallmark. Embrace it instead of whining.

3) No network in boys hostel. People having a Jio connection are completely disconnected because they do not get mobile network and wifi is of no use: maybe use another operator? Indiapost is also very very good to keep in touch.

4) Not enough water coolers: most of our citizens wait for water everyday. you can too.

5) Mess food is horrible. I doubt if it is even of edible quality: right now you eat for sustenance. eating for pleasure is for later in life.

6) Gym equipments are broken: do you even work out bro? you can run.
Gnlu likes to pride itself by saying that it has the best amenities and facilities offered at any other- this statement is absolutely trash and does not even have any substance.

When I joined gnlu, this was the state of a girls hostel room: the bed was broken, none of the draws of the so- called desk would open and the rust on the cupboard would give someone tetanus just by looking at it.

The wardens are of no help either. It took them five months replace a fused blub !

Faculty-wise they like to say that they are awesome and all that.

Gnlu has faculty wardens, helmed by mahesh choudhary and prabhavathi baskey, along with a so-called student grievance council.

The female faculty warden does not do shit despite repeated complaints and e-mails, she does not even bother to give a reply to the issues raised!

There was a case of vandalism on the campus to which no time bound action was taken but now there is a commission to investigate the issue.

All in all, gnlu is an absolutely worthwhile nlu to choose for if you would like to spend the next five years of your life in a police state campus with nooooo remedial measures in place.
This thread needs to continue. First year students are ragged and we have not been allotted rooms till now. Please help
