Question: Who is Krishnakali Bose/Basu?

Answer:

- She is an Associate Professor at an obscure college called Barrackpore Rastraguru Surendranath College

- She has an MA degree, but the website of the above college does not post further credentials
https://brsnc.in/site/ug_staff/3

- She is a member of the NUJS Governing Council as an "eminent" academic, sharing space with SC judges and NLU VCs.

- She is possibly the first ever person NOT from a non-central institution like IIMC, JNU or TISS to receive a place in the NUJS GC. Also possibly the first ever person of Associate Professor rank to serve on the NUJS GC.

- Since 2013, she heads the Trinamool Congresss teacher's union (West Bengal College and University Professors Association), whose website has Mamata Banerjee's photo on half the home page
https://www.wbcupa.org.in

- She was appointed as WBCUPA head by Partha Chatterjee (making national news headlines right now for reasons known to all).

- Her appointment as head of WBCUPA was publicly announced by Chatterjee (see link below):
https://www.business-standard.com/article/current-affairs/trinamool-wants-only-one-union-in-a-factory-112082000048_1.html

- She was involved in a. major controversy in 2014 (link below from Ananda Bazar Patrika, in Bengali). There was a major controversy about cheating in exams in colleges in West Bengal, allegedly encouraged by TMC elements under Partha Chatterjee. Many honest professors resigned in protest against such open cheating. However, Krishnakali Bose accused these professors of "barabari" (which in English means "staging a needless drama"). According to the Ananda Bazar Patrika, there was widespread shock among academic circles at her comments, which were seen as justifying and encouraging cheating by TMC-affiliated students.

- Another controversy, from 2018: She was campaigning for the TMC during Panchayat elections. India Today did a story on the ethics of professors campaigning for political parties instead of teaching. She remarked that "there's no harm in doing that since it's a commitment of the teachers to campaign for the government"

- Here she is posing in front of a photo of Mamata Banerjee, along with some others:
https://www.wbcupa.org.in/gallery.php

- And here is a quote by her criticising students at Jadavpur University for protesting against the TMC government over the molestation of a girl. She calls the protests "politically motivated"
https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/trinamool-rally-cuts-no-ice-with-protesting-jadavpur-university-students-669414

- Here is another interesting quote by her from 2021. A group of teachers drank poison and attempted suicide to protest against corruption and arbitrary postings in educational institutions in Bengal (regarding which the Justice Bag Committee found major irregularities and Partha Chatterjee has now been arrested). She criticised the protesting teachers for drinking poison and called the protests a "conspiracy".

- Finally most recently, she supported the decision by Mamata Banerjee to appoint herself as Chancellor of all state universities, in place fo the Governor

Now, here are some hard questions for the SJA:

1. Does the SJA feel that Ms Basu has the necessary qualifications and stature to merit a place in the NUJS GC as an "eminent" academic?

2. Does the SJA feel that a person who has made remarks like those above merits a place in the NUJS GC? Does the SJA support these remarks?

3. Does the SJA wish to comment on Partha Chatterjee and the West Bengal education scam?

4. Finally, does the SJA feel that it is necessary for Ms Bose to give a statement on the scam and on Partha Chatterjee?

What are they doing with nujs man. At this pace, nujs will become a tier 2 nlu within few years.
I miss my old nujs :(
Cue the pro-TMC NUJS trolls on LI:

"Barrackpore College is just as good as JNU and TISS"
"Just because one is a Partha Chatterjee supporter does not mean that person is bad"
"Teachers have a fundamental right to join political parties"
"The West Bengal education scam is sub judice. Let the law take its course"
"Mudi must rejine"
Teachers do have such a right, guaranteed by the Constitution.
Nobody at NUJS has ever come out in support of Partha ever.
Don't you RW trolls have a problem with JNU anyway? NUJS also has the IIMC director in the EC. Though he never comes to meetings, just like this individual.
The education scam is related to schools and has exactly zero to do with NUJS other than in your fertile imagination.
Please let us know when Mudi rejines. We in Bengal have thrown him out of the state once. Can't wait to do so again in 2024. No matter how many times he begs us to "chup chap pod (which means ass and not lotus) ey chhap!"
Considering that anon trolls like you won't be allowed entry in JNU, TISS, NLUs or any reputable institution, what you think or claim is worth nothing.
the next VC is going to be a chap named Rathin Bandhopadhyay who heads the law department at North Bengal Univeristy. The chap was in the race for the VC this time but dint make it to the final cut so he lobbied for Nirmalda who is his teacher. He is also an office bearer of the Trinamool backed West Bengal College and University Professors Association.

the chap has a 21 page cv (not kidding https://www.nbu.ac.in/doc/dept/law/LawRB.pdf) and its common gossip in the corridors of North Bengal that he is gearing up to be the next VC of NUJS.

NUJS will eventually become WBUJS.
I think you are right. The selection committee will just be an eyewash. My guess is that the selection committee will consist of a TMC MP or MLA who also happens to be a lawyer (someone like Kalyan Banerjee or Ashok Deb) plus two serving or retired High Court judges sympathetic to the administration (there are many).
Rathin is old news. He is not coming to NUJS any more. He has shown his hand a bit too early and a bit too overtly by performing that hatchet job of a shoddy report on the behest of the state law minister. The EC shot down that report and has recognised Rathin's inefficiency and ulterior motives. Good riddance!
Prior to Mamata, the Left Front government's professor nominee was Professor TK Oomen of JNU, legendary sociologist and Padma Bhushan awardee. After that Virginius Xaxa, another noted sociologist and Director of TISS. Under Mamata we have come down to a nominee who is a TMC politician who happens to be a lecturer is some small college. Plus loads of TMC MPs and MLAs in the other positions. I can't understand how the SJA is tolerating all this. We might as well disband the SJA.
Sanghis may get a taste of real authoritarian "hybrid democracy" under Mamata Banerjee which they so keenly admire and want to emulate aka the Communist Party model (even the CPM could not emulate it perfectly- its only for a shishya of Sanjay Gandhi like MB to perfect this).
SJA now only plays the role to get project extensions and do some tokenistic boost of infrastructure by installing Washing machines, dryers and washroom fittings. It's the most incompetent student body.
Yes I agree that Rathin Bandyopadhyay is lobbying to be the next VC as has been pointed out. He is already a member of the GC or EC. He will perhaps succeed in his efforts, as Mamata Banerjee has made it clear through her actions that every single VC has to be a TMC activist and preferably a Bengali. But I blame the SJA. The present advocate general is a very eminent lawyer, unlike the previous one. Why can’ the SJA at least have an appointment with him? He is a Cambridge graduate and his daughter is a Jindal graduate, so he will certainly have an idea about academics , unlike the previous AG.

Also, if a Bengali must be appointed, there are enough people who are well qualified. There is Arghya Sengupta at Vidhi, plus certain people at Jindal. Why not them?
So much fake news doing rounds here. Rathin is not the member of AC, FC, EC or GC or NUJS at present.
ROFL! What makes Arghya qualified to be an NLU VC? He isn't even an academic!
The students of NUJS are NOT too disunited or cowardly to protest. This is the biggest myth. They know very well what is happening. The reason they are not protesting is because they WANT mediocre people running the college. It lowers academic standards and makes it easier to get good marks. The students WANT alumni to be kept out of faculty positions, because the students feel they will be strict. There is a world of difference between previous generations of NUJS students and the current generation.
Have to agree with this. The older NUJS grads are way different than the current grads.

I mean to be fair, there was a point when Mamata Banerjee's astrologer was on the NUJS EC (around 2012-13, if I'm not wrong). At least, she's a teacher.

That said, I wouldn't be as worried about the GC members (it's mostly a ceremonial body that meets once a year during the convocation). What matters is the regular appointments NKC has been making. While he's indeed increasing faculty numbers, filling in chair positions and playing the ranking game; the quality of the hires themselves does not speak very highly.

Unless, you specifically hire passionate committed teachers and research fellows (preferably NLU alumni), it's gonna come to bite you back in the long run notwithstanding the rankings.
The astrologer never joined the EC formally. Check your news source. As for alumni, there are currently 9 NLU LLB alumni teaching at NUJS on permanent and contractual posts. Which out of a total strength of 35, is not bad even if it is not ideal.
Don't you people get tired of this joblessness? Instead of focusing on actual problems of the university, such as infra, lack of funds, administrative inefficiency, dwindling student interest in learning, you are instead harping all through the year about who is there in the GC that meets once a year and serves very little actual purpose, or what the CM says or doesn't say about the place, or cook up crazy theories about seats getting sold. I know this place is now infested with trolls, but at least get some class.
Not only TK Oomen , the Left appointed eminent people of all ideologies to the NUJS GC, such as:

Among Senior Advocates:
- KKV
- Gopal Subramanian
- Dipankar Gupta
- Raju Ramachandran

Among retired judges:
- Ruma Pal
- Chitatoosh Mukherjee

Among others:
- Noted scientist Raja Ramanna
- Noted journalist CR Irani

Shame on Mamata and the TMC for ruining NUJS and all other universities in West Bengal!! The Partha Chatterjee scam is the tip of the iceberg.
Take a look at this. Holy F !! We really need to know now if any faculty or staff jobs at NUJS were for sale. The ED probe must include NUJS alongside the bigger state universities.

Another anti-NUJS bhakt troll. These have been coming out of the woodworks like termite ever since Dhankad has been thrown out of NUJS.
You are sounding like Arnab Goswami. Why, would you have bought one for yourself had one been on offer?
Do you know who Krishnakoli Basu's predecessor in the TMC teachers union was? None other than Baisakhi Banerjee!!! 😂 Now who does one explain to those outside Bengal who this famous lady is!! 🤣
SJA needs to mount a campaign to invite Faizan Mustafa to be the next VC.
Today's news, quoting Baisakhi Banerjee. Offered without comment.

Quote:
"It was strange to see student leaders coming from an ordinary background becoming powerful and strong names in the education sector. There was a syndicate working inside the West Bengal College University Professors Association (WBCUPA) which added a price tag to the college university sub-post where every post was on sale. Those who could not teach even in school entered the university directly with Partha Chatterjee's push," Banerjee told media. "Underqualified thieves were getting jobs because of Partho Chatterjee.

Alumni have graduated so they have no business to tell the students what to do.
