Although the majority of cases so far have been among gay and bisexual mean, it is NOT a "gay disease". It can spread to anyone by sharing unwashed towels, clothes, cutlery etc that have been used by an infected person. Two children have just caught it in the US today. This presents a problem for colleges in India, because living conditions in hostels are very, very dirty. Plus, of course, there is a rise in Covid cases.

So maybe it's safest to lock down colleges across India again and resume online classes? I had made a similar comment in the early days of the Covid pandemic on LI. People on the forum made fun of me and downvoted my comment. We later saw what happened. The fact is that colleges in India are dens of infection. There is no sense of hygiene among both students and staff.
Correction: cases have predominantly been detected amongst queer men because they are being tested for monkey pox upon presenting with symptoms. Most other people are not.
The problem with the latter part of your argument is that the smallpox vaccine would provide unto 85% immunity from monkeypox, and since a majority of India has already been vaccinated against smallpox, there doesn't seem to be a reason to lock down colleges and conduct online classes.
NO ONE born after 1980 has the vaccine, which means Gen Y, Gen Z and Gen Alpha. 70% of India was born after 1980.
Today a man in Delhi got monkeypox. The man has no history of foreign travel but attended a party in Manali. The media is referring to the party as a "stag party" and we can all guess what that is code word for. However, remember that such a patient can still spread the infection to regular people by touching surfaces.

So it's time to raise the alarm now. There is no need of a complete nationwide lockdown, but at least schools and colleges should be shut.
Because only those places are 'infested' with gay people in the country? What is this obsession with shutting down places of education? If anything, those should be among the last places to be shut.
Media outlets worldwide are reporting that monkeypox cases spread because of 2 gay rave parties in Europe. A study in the New England Journal of Medicine has said that 98% of infected people are gay or bisexual men who had skin to skin contact. However, fear of a woke backlash is stopping everyone from stating the obvious conclusion : the disease is spreading because a lot of gay men are recklessly having sex with multiple partners. Thus, gay men need to be more responsible in their behaviour.

sigh. if you all dont want to attend college fine- why do you want to stop the rest of us?
The worst case scenario is if Covid and monkeypox combine to form a new disease. That will be an absolute disaster.
Not time to lockdown but definitely time to be vigilant , serious & responsible. It is contagious. No shame in avoiding public places. Best to restrict your area of work. Best to bathe yourself after coming from outside.
Let's see what future holds?
Cases are rising in Delhi. It’s getting worrying. The majority of people in India live in cramped living conditions, so even without being gay there is skin to skin contact among guys. I shudder to think what’s going to happen. It’s time to roll out the smallpox vaccine to everyone born after 1978.
