Is the pay really that low in government jobs compared to law firm jobs? I really don't understand these government pay bands. Can someone please break them down for me. And also how does pay progression happen over the years? Would be grateful if a comparision can be made between them and law firm jobs.
The annual compensation of a senior/equity partner may be ten to twenty times of a senior bureaucrat. So there is no comparison between salaries. People harping on government jobs are mostly doing it because of the additional perks and the colonial era convoluted sense of respect that is accorded to high ranking government officials. Some of whom forget that they are actually and literally servant of the public and behave like "my lords"- a legacy of the British times which thanks to middle class Indians with stockholm syndrome refuses to leave because they are enamored by this my baap/vip culture.
