The Indian entertainment industry is next only to Hollywood and much bigger than industries like Japanese manga, Korean music and film etc. But we don't find entertainment law being so big in India. Why is that?
99% of people in India only watch pirated movies, including IP lawyers themselves! So you can't monetise IP in India, thus poor career prospects in entertainment law. Plus, Bollywood is throwing up flops anyway.
It has nothing to do with piracy but rather because entertainment/IP law is a much easier field than corporate and financial law. The amount of brain power and hard work needed to do a corp law deal is extremely demanding, almost like doing a heart surgery. So you cannot expect other branches of law to be as big. Not only entertainment/IP, but also trade, antitrust, environment, cyber law: all these fields are easy and thus smaller. It's like this: a heart surgeon or cancer surgeon will always charge more than a physiotherapist or psychiatrist.
It is directly proportionate to the size of the industry. It is not just limited to Movies, but TV, radio, influencers, music, amusement parks etc. You can't compare the industry in the US to what's happening in India.
Bcoz movies and shows here are rubbish. Make good shit like Korea and the industry here will grow. Also, it is overpriced. I am not gonna pay so much for an OTT subscription when I can watch for free on pirated channels.
