I hv heard that its very easy to land a job in Canada after an LLM. Also, the Canadian authorities easily allot a work visa post llm. Please let me know the starting CTC of Canadian law firms who hire Indian grads post their LLM in Canada
Doing LLM in Canada and landing a job in that 1 year is extremely difficult, most never succeed
a better way: pass the NCA exam sitting in India so you become the equivalent of a canadian law grad
you can do this in 6 months to 1 year and at a fraction of the cost of doing LLM in Canada (probably about 1.5 lakh in exam fees)
Once you clear NCA, it is reasonably easy to already get paralegal work remotely from Canadian lawyers who are all fed up with the extremely high wages of paralegals and love to work with cheaper NCA-cleared people from India (who know Canadian law as they had to pass those exams)
While you do this, you appear in the Ontario bar exam - will take you another 6 months to 1 year to clear
If you do these steps you will build enough connections and understanding of the market to find opportunities
Remember that lawyers there are also hard-pressed to find good juniors who can get their shit done, just they do not want to bet on some random Indian LLM who spent a year studying Canadian law and will in all likelihood need to be trained a lot before they become useful
Also if you want to land in canada after NCA, getting a residency is not hard, and you can also sign up for cheaper 3-6 months diploma courses which don't cost you a bomb like LLM
I know one guy who signed up for a psychology course that was free, landed in canada and then got a job as paralegal only because he did nca first
Getting a Corporate Lawyer job is extremely easy in USA - there are 700 corporate Law Firms paying atleast 100k. And if you have an LLM + NY/CA Bar you have a good shot at getting that job.
But getting a Work Permit or Sponsorship is impossible in US.
Getting a corporate lawyer job is far far tougher in Canada. There are less than 30 firms which pay more than 100k. There is far more competition from native & thousands of international JD Students.
Getting a work permit or even a even permanent residency is far more easier in Canada than in US. You can live in Canada.
Future threats to your immigration status are very low in Canada - Canadian Conservatives (BJP/GOP equivalent) is more pro immigration than democrats in USA. And atleast till 2050 there will be immigration friendly Government's.
On the other hand - Donald Trump & Sons can be back to power in US anytime soon. Even joe biden is an anti immigrant president.
Agreed the legal immigration system of US is broken against Indians/Chinese and no one in US gives a shit about it because they want more of white immigrants and less of Indians and Chinese.
Adding to that, the career trajectory in the US is much easier than in India. You can easily move on to a bigger firm once you've worked in smaller firms. However, no big firm in Canada would take a person working in Immigration clinics

What I was telling is,
Getting a law firm job is easier in US (earlier than even in India) - Not Cravath or Kirkland. But some Corp job.
Getting the same job in Canada is hard.
Thier are ex amarchand lawyers who migrated to Canada working in immigration clinics.
She is working at the #1 law firm in canada
