They do not pay income tax, get free electricity, subsidies for diesel (which pollutes more than petrol), free electricity, free water, free fertilisers and loan waivers. They also burn stubble and pollute the air, which slowly kills our lungs. Now they are stalling market reforms.

The farm laws will move India way from 20th century socialism and into 21st century free market commerce. We must support it. Sorry, but I #DoNotStandWithFarmers.
All that is well and good for laughs but if you are smart enough then you know that agriculture produce and farmers are not just leeches and disposables in this game. Parties in power come and go but agricultural produce and exports are pretty much essential to India's export profile - as it is for many developing countries (like Brazil). (READ: https://www.livemint.com/news/india/india-breaks-into-the-top-10-list-of-agri-produce-exporters-11626975654126.html)

Subsidies then, are not just to ease the strain in production costs but also help the products remain globally competitive, which is very important if its key to your export profile - especially at a time when Europe and US give agricultural subsidies far greater than India or any other developing countries. Thankfully, government systems are aware of this so nobody plays politics over subsidies - its only for mindless TV and LegallyIndia debates, far away from actual realities of farms and international negotiations on agriculture.

I don't know what you mean by saying India had socialism in the 20th century. It certainly wasn't that (read Kaushik Basu's review of Virmani's book), its called protectionism and that benefits the big corporations who need to protect their market share from competition. As for 'free market commerce', as Arun Kumar writes here (https://thewire.in/agriculture/turning-the-fantasy-of-free-markets-and-choice-in-indian-agriculture-into-reality), agricultural products are not comparable with non-agricultural ones because of their inherent nature so its best to shed the fantasy that agricultural reforms which supposedly bring in free market in agriculture (these have always been there) are doing something similar to say...cement or plastics.
1. Value of agri exports is just 18 where as service contributes near to 50. So, agri exports are noway essential and they are controlled to manage inflation to the extent that they aren deed competitive by any means.

2. Subsides are not meant for global competitiveness (that's the why wto dhoa negotiation on agri subsidies failed) they are given to ease the burden on farmer, mange inflation and ensure food security.

3. Kaushik bashu should have read constitution which mentiones socialism (too appease soviets + indira tilt towards left) and India suffered till 1991 under grab of license raj.

Further, why can't agri products can be competitive? Do you want farmers to stay poor and not make profit? Imagine restricting lawyers to practise in a particular court that's what being done by current apmc act. Further, if that model is so successful by govt opened up milk, horticulture and various allied sectors?
Ok, you may have your opinion not based on gobbledegook. But I think some other forum would be a better choice. While i am super political, I do not understand why this would be your forum to rant. Try reddit india. you can bait all the liberals there. Please keep this for toxic lawyers.
I 100% agree with OP. The men and women obstructing Delhi border aren’t even farmers per se. The real farmer can’t sustain this year long plus non-sense. These chaps at the border are the rot that has been feeding off a broken system all these years, they are being bankrolled by a morally bankrupt opposition and corrupt dalals. I say - starve them, and save the real farmer from corruption and inefficiency.
What's the number of your car? Did it happen to feature in a video that has recently gone viral? Also, the sheer amount of ignorance that is apparent from your comment is mind-boggling.
I'm sure the farmers will miss your support, oh anonymous internet troll. What a crushing blow you have delivered to the movement! How will they ever recover? I'm not sure how to even break this news to them...Kalyug. Ghor Kalyug.

On a serious note- Every nation in the world subsidises their farmers (the blue, green and amber boxes of the WTO ring a bell?). Besides the virtues of the free market are overrated. Read a little Adam Smith and stop equating "worth" with "value", oh exalted trollish one!
Lol none of the proposed reforms are going to make the farmers pay tax or stop getting free electricity or subsidized diesel.

Farmers dont pay tax even in capitalist USA. Farming is a risky business in India and dependent on rainfall. With more and more people getting educated no one would be ineterested in farming. A country with 1.3 billion people to feed should not be dependent on outher countries for food.
USA doesn't employ 50 of poluarion in farm sector. Everyone's earing over 50k pm should pay double taxes. So, farmers can fulfill their basic needs.
Even I refuse to stand with farmers. Dont want to get run over by some politician.
How are you qualified to determine what exactly constitutes market reform? You are neither an agriculturalist nor an economist, nor do you have the slightest idea about how the agricultural supply chain actually works in this country. The farmers unlike you are at the very least informed stakeholders, and therefore possess actual expertise to say whether some change is actually a reform or a turn for the worse.
Quick to judge that he is not informed, or qualified to talk about farm law or to assume that the person doesn't know about it at all, or the person is not a farmer too. Nice.
Mat khada ho bhai. Jaha stand karna hai kar. Hame kyu pakka raha hai?
That's completely okay.

You don't seem to have much of a spine anyway, to be able to stand.
Blatantly allowing derogatory jibes bec it fits your garbage brain, you R-unD.
…but I have only one question: what are they protesting against? The laws have been stayed and the matter is pending in the Supreme Court. Right to Protest is a fundamental right - agreed. However, at what cost? esp when the highest court of the country is already hearing the matter. Let Supreme Court decide atleast. If the Supreme Court strikes down then all is good and if not then again come back and protest. For now atleast stop this protest.
They want a political solution to the political problem that's been created. If the SC upholds the law's constitutionality, that wouldn't invalidate the farmers' concerns overnight. Again, your opinion comes from a complete disconnect with the actual agricultural scene in this country.
It is embarrassing to see the level of discourse. Everyone is trying to school on things which don't matter.

Those who face problems know what the problem is. Farmers would know what their problem is, arthiyas know what their problem is and commuters crossing borders know what their problem.

So shut up, and bend over.
