Any idea how many people from Karnataka make it to t5 NLUs, what's the chance of getting into NLSIU with domicile quota if you're expecting a rank of 400-500
If you want to save India, start with educating yourself about your skewed notion of merit first.
Completely agree. Only marks should ideally be considered. However, for the same, every aspirant should have equal resources. It could only be possible if CLAT is made less exclusionary by limiting the role of Reading comprehension and elite English. Many law school professors speak broken English but still are highly competent. CLAT needs to revamp itself for better, be available in Hindi, NLUs should be nationalised and then all quotas can be slowly abolished.
All this sounds nice. But only if we want to believe people can’t learn a different language ever and it’s some disability we all have to accommodate. Our landmark court judgments are in English, we have a colonial legal system whose history is written in English, majority of legal philosophers who have shaped and influenced this legal system wrote in English. So yeah- maybe focusing on English at the entrance exam level is bad- but not bothering to build capacity and instead claiming that a legal education today can be done at an NLU in regional languages/ or that lack of English ability doesn’t impact your career is just silly and short sighted.
Hindi is not the only language. You'd help some by leaving out the whole of South India and prevent them from giving clat in a language they are comfortable in?
If a category student has good English and proper resources, then he should leave his seat for someone from general unreserved category who has not-so-great English and lacks resources?
One more clueless ingenue who thinks Hindi = India.

If CLAT is in English, privileged South / West/ East/Indians have an equal chance of competing with privileged North Indians.

if CLAT is in Hindi, subaltern South/ West/ East Indians are screwed. Only subaltern North Indians will make it.

Pick which way you want CLAT to be problematic.
Wokes here supporting domicile quota: FYI it will benefit only privileged kids from Bengaluru schools.
