Hello fellow lawyers (and law students). My question is basically the title. Do those who work in in house counsels face a limitation when it comes to the exit options available to them due to their area of work? If I were to work for a steel or mining company and deal mostly with land and environmental laws, will I only be eligible for in house jobs that deal with the same area of work, I. E., land and environment? Do in house roles hinder possible opportunities in this regard? My question is only with respect to moving from one company to another. Thanks in advance.
They will hinder to the extent of getting your foot in the door. But once you get to the interview, you have to convince the recruiter that your skills as a lawyer in a particular sector are also important in another sector.
To add, someone who has worked in can use it to show some similarities in another infrastructure sectors like renewable energy.
