We spend 5 years in law school and that’s half a decade. Really wanted to know which university has the best environment and student life. Some factors that could be considered:

* [...] extent restriction on freedom
* Hostel, mess food and availability of food joints nearby
* Parties, fests and availability of stuff needed in a party (obviously I am talking about balloons and party poppers Kian)
* Student quality and quantity
* Location of the university
* Curfew timings, moral policing and implementation
* teaching methodology
* Open Spaces, campus infrastructure and peaceful spots for reading
* DOGS
* Availability of affordable hotel rooms and private spaces on and off campus to hold private meetings (relating to urgent contemporary legal issues ofc)
* Attitude, perspective and quality of people living near the vicinity of campus
* Age and quality of professors
* Sports infrastructure and the number of sports played
* Budget allocated to non law societies and activities
* Approach of administration with respect to careers and extra curricular beyond law
* Any other factor that would significantly affect student life

JGLS might emerge as the winner for they charge a lot of fees. Please keep the discussion limited to NLUs and other private university
Filled in for NALSAR. Personal opinions, others could disagree.

* [...] extent restriction on freedom -- no in-times to the hostel complex, can come in till 9 pm to the campus. Late entry is also allowed - the wardens are generally chill.
* Hostel, mess food and availability of food joints nearby -- hostels are about people for me, so they are definitely good. Mess food is good and bad. But there are dhabas nearby. Kill your stomach with red chillies in Y1, but once the stomach lining dies out, it's all good. You have expensive resorts nearby if you have the money.
* Parties, fests and availability of stuff needed in a party (obviously I am talking about balloons and party poppers Kian) -- I think we have enough, don't know much about others to compare with in all honesty.
* Student quality and quantity -- 50 acres, 750 odd students (LLB, LLM & MBA put together). Everyone sticks to their own groups, so quality is more a reflection of you I guess.
* Location of the university -- away from the city. 1/1.5 hour easy to get to someplace 'good' (in the city sense of the word)
* Curfew timings, moral policing and implementation -- literally none unless you mess up too bad to end up in front of a riled up Santhy! But that is more of a one or two people in a batch over 5 years. Guess it isn't too bad.
* teaching methodology -- good and bad both. You get to pick your own electives (outside 15 mandatory courses of course), so pick with care and you get really good ones.
* Open Spaces, campus infrastructure and peaceful spots for reading -- big, sprawling campus. You will find peace if you want it.
* DOGS -- tons - good, happy ones
* Availability of affordable hotel rooms and private spaces on and off campus to hold private meetings (relating to urgent contemporary legal issues ofc) -- you can those urgent private meetings in your hostel rooms ;-) we have conveniently cut out bars in room windows to sneak people in. No one really seems to care either.
* Attitude, perspective and quality of people living near the vicinity of campus -- Shamirpet folk are fine. Simple people who we have little to do with.
* Age and quality of professors -- good and bad, other LI posts have gone into this.
* Sports infrastructure and the number of sports played -- good, decent - not that I care.
* Budget allocated to non law societies and activities -- the SBC gets something like 50 lakhs a year, MCC takes tons out of it.
* Approach of administration with respect to careers and extra curricular beyond law -- does anyone care what they think?
* Any other factor that would significantly affect student life.
Filled in for DSNLU Visakhapatnam:

* [...] extent restriction on freedom

The only restriction I can think of is the moderately high restriction on freedom of movement, but wardens are generally chill about letting people in to the campus after 9 p.m.. However, with discretion comes capriciousness, and hence people with 'good standing' before wardens generally enjoy much more relaxations as opposed to other people.

* Hostel, mess food and availability of food joints nearby

Mess is divided into South Indian food and North Indian food (you can only subscribe to one at the time of admission), both of which are fairly good quality, barring the occasional bad menus. A lot of food joints are available right outside the campus, and near the next largest crossing.

* Parties, fests and availability of stuff needed in a party (obviously I am talking about balloons and party poppers Kian)

Parties and fests ordinarily happen within the campus and all stuff is available at a moment's notice - there are hardly any people who get caught sneaking in balloons unless you are totally careless.

* Student quality and quantity

About 600 B.A. LL.B. students and 12 LL.M. students who stay on campus - the quality varies drastically even within groups. There are some really smart people and some people who just come to chill and get a degree to join their parents' business or chambers. What I can say for sure though is that the majority of the students are incredibly hard working since they know that most people do not give a shit about the DSNLU brand; that makes proving oneself very important.

* Location of the university

The university is located about 30 minutes from the main city, by car or bike (and 50 minutes by bus - the bus stop is the university gate). We have our own hill, are surrounded by greenery, and more hills surround us as well. Hands down one of the most beautiful campuses I have ever seen. Not to mention that tourist destinations (like Araku valley) are easily accessible by bike or car, as is the case with the numerous beaches of Vizag.

* Curfew timings, moral policing and implementation

For curfew timings, see answer to question 1. Moral policing is indeed there to an extent that is a bit annoying to say the least; there is an inordinate focus on propriety.

* teaching methodology

Some are great, some are plain bad. The variation is immense so difficult to generalise. As other commenters said, for electives, you can pick and choose what teachers you would like to learn from.

* Open Spaces, campus infrastructure and peaceful spots for reading

The campus has quite some open space, including a large lawn (park?) in front of the academic block. The infrastructure is great since it is new and still expanding. For reading, one would imagine that you would do it in the library, but otherwise you are free to read in the common rooms of the hostels as well.

* DOGS

Quite some cute dogs, which are the life of a lot of people.

* Availability of affordable hotel rooms and private spaces on and off campus to hold private meetings (relating to urgent contemporary legal issues ofc)

Meetings related to urgent contemporary legal issues can be carried out in the city - no hotels or rooms available near the campus (unless you manage to rent a flat outside or have a friend who does so).

* Attitude, perspective and quality of people living near the vicinity of campus

In general, people do not care - you go your own way, and they go their own. The campus is situated in a place where there are other institutions newly established - the Indian Maritime University and the Indian Institute of Petroleum & Energy, so it is rapidly developing.

* Age and quality of professors

There are some old and some new, nothing special compared to other newer NLUs.

* Sports infrastructure and the number of sports played

There is a basketball court, a badminton/volleyball field and arrangements for football.

* Budget allocated to non law societies and activities

Some societies like the centre for arbitration have unlimited budgets, and some have technically zero budgets. The sky is the limit if you can convince the VC that doing some event or programme is worthwhile (which is genrally difficult).

* Approach of administration with respect to careers and extra curricular beyond law

As long as achievements get them free publicity, they are always eager to support.

* Any other factor that would significantly affect student life

Nothing special compared to other similar universities.
ILS - 5 years of vacation. Enjoy! Job ki chinta mat karo. Sabko mil jaati hai.
NUJS - hands down! Location, parties, societies, activities, almost zero hostel restrictions, great and cheap food and a very non-judgemental city too in terms of smoking/drinking - especially if you are a girl!

Bas faculty aur funding kam hai NUJS mein. Baaki sab mein no. 1 hai! :P

Even the CJI's review commission report said "notwithstanding any rankings, NUJS has THE BEST student body among all national law universities." (that review commission also had the NALSAR VC!)
This was quite a while ago. NLUD has overtaken Bangalore and Kolkata now.
Why troll so unnecessarily? If you've got to contribute information about our own college, do so.
Zabardasti ka dick-measuring band karo.
