One undergraduate question has been cancelled while one has had the correct answer changed due to a typographical error in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) answer keys, according to a notification on the official website .
Responses to the Answer Keys of CLAT-2016 (UG & PG) were received from the candidates during 13-15 May 2016. The Responses were duly examined by the Committee constituted for the purpose. The CLAT Core Committee at its meeting held on 19th May 2016 considered the recommendation of the Committee and decided that result be declared with following modifications:
Under-Graduate
1. The Question with ID No. 2185952598 pertained to visual reasoning in the Section of Logical Reasoning. Guidelines in the CLAT Brochure page 4 states- “Visual Reasoning will not be tested”. Therefore, this question has been decided to be withdrawn. The performance of all the candidates shall be evaluated out of 199 questions rather than 200 questions.
2. The answer key pertaining to Question ID No. 2185952542 has been corrected as there was a typographical error in the answer. The correct option for this question is ” ‘B’ has not abetted ‘A’ to kill ‘C’ “.
3. There is no other change in the Answer Key.
Post-Graduate
1. The Answer Key pertaining to Question Id. No. 2185952761 has been corrected as there was a typographical error in the answer. The correct option for this question is “Right to Self Defence”.
2. There is no other change in the Answer Key.
It is understood that merit lists will be adjusted shortly.
Last year CLAT saw an unprecedented mess (which was so bad that we dubbed it a Clataclysm at Legally India, with the problems triggering a monster writ petition against the general conduct of the CLAT).
For one there was massive debate over incorrect questions in the answer key resulting in a number of legal challenges, with an "expert committee" constituted by the CLAT convenor RMLNLU Lucknow eventually deciding that most questions were correct.
