NLSIU sews up 33 Day Zero jobs & PPOs, 4 foreign internships [UPDATE]

NLSIU Bangalore’s 2016 batch successfully closed its first round of campus recruitments yesterday (2 April), one day after NLU Delhi, managing to secure 32 33 jobs already for 48 students taking part in campus recruitment activities.

The recruitment coordination committee (RCC) told Legally India: “As of now, it seems to be a very ripe market for recruitment, with top firms looking to expand and take in as much quality manpower as possible.”

A total of 20 jobs were secured through campus interviews, with AZB & Partners emerging as the largest Day Zero recruiter when excluding pre-placement offers (PPO) made after students’ internships, hiring six through campus interviews.

Amarchand Mangaldas’ Mumbai region hired five through campus and one through PPO.

Khaitan & Co emerged as the largest recruiter when including its four PPOs, picking up a total of seven students.

Update: The NLSIU RCC has let us know that there was another PPO from S&R Associates, bringing the total accepted jobs up to 33.

48 students participated in the recruitment committee activities out of a batch of around 65.

The RCC commented in an emailed statement: “We are delighted with the recruitment figures after Day Zero. Given that numerous people in our batch are also aspiring to jobs outside of law firms, the current percentage of people recruited is very satisfactory with respect to the total numbers sitting for Day Zero.”

They added:

As the RCC for the batch of 2016, we were obviously looking at how to maximise recruitments for our batch. The approach we followed was very goal oriented.

We ensured that most interested people managed two internships with different firms so that they could get an idea of the kind of work expected of them at different work places. Aside from that, we encouraged firms to come for talks to orient students towards their goals.

Last, we think our policy of full disclosure with the firms really helped us build good relationships with them. We think that it makes sense for any RCC to start building relationships with firms from the 3rd year onwards, so that there is a certain amount of trust and experience between the firms and the aspirants by the time recruitments commence.

RCC members included Anshul Roy, Nayantara Ravichandran, Shimal Kapoor, Ravneet Kaur, Deekshitha Ganesan, Tanya Jain and Sidhanth Ramachandran.

NLU Delhi’s 2016 batch managed to secure a total of 20 job offers, including four PPOs, besides four foreign law firm internships, as first reported by Legally India.
