NUJS Kolkata has set a new Day Zero record, with 40 students having accepted jobs after kicking off its 2016-batch campus recruitments on 17 and 18 April.
A total of 63 students took part in the Day Zero process and scored 27 job offers made after campus interviews, on top of 13 pre-placement offers (PPOs) previously secured by students during internships, according to the college recruitment committee.
Khaitan & Co was the biggest recruiter with 12 accepted jobs, followed by Luthra & Luthra with eight.
Amarchand Mangaldas Mumbai was the third-biggest recruiter with six jobs, while Amarchand Delhi hired four.
AZB & Partners, ICICI Bank, J Sagar Associates (JSA), Talwar Thakore & Associates and Trilegal also picked up students.
Four NUJS 2016 graduates also won vacation schemes at Herbert Smith Freehills and Linklaters, which often have a high chance of turning into high-paying jobs abroad.
The total batch size is 118, of whom more students will sit for recruitments throughout the year.
NLSIU Bangalore’s Day Zero this year yielded 33 jobs and 4 vacation schemes, while NLU Delhi secured 20 jobs and 4 vacation schemes, NLIU Bhopal got around 22 jobs, GNLU Gandhinagar 24 jobs and NLU Jodhpur hauled in 31.
The biggest 2016 recruiter so far is Khaitan & Co, which after picking up a total of 12 NUJS students including three via PPO, has now recruited 42 2016-graduates already, closely followed by Amarchand Mangaldas Mumbai with 38 offered jobs and Luthra & Luthra with 35.
Amarchand Mangaldas Delhi, which is expected to operate independently and in competition to Amarchand Mumbai, has hired 17.

dz is like that ranking system they use (i think it is called super 30). the absolute batch size might be different but it is irrelevant because dz involves the top rankers of each college (roughly the same number of people) competing against each other.
i am inspite of being from nlud willing to graciously concede that this was a phenomenal performance. uour argument is like someone saying that the uk's tally at the beijing olympics was actually better than russia's because russia has a bigger population. The reason such an argument would be stupid is that the absolute size of your population doesn't matter at the olympics because of the level you are performing at, ie only the best of each country are competing against each other (roughly the same number).
And day zero shouldn't really be a competition - it doesn't say that one college's toppers are smarter or whatever and NUJS grads aren't directly competing with NLS etc grads in day zero interviews (though perhaps indirectly).
Statistically it would suggest though that a large college will have a larger absolute number of smart students, if performance in each school is distributed normally.
A college with a large number of students, all other things being equal, should be able to place a larger absolute number of students than a smaller college. However, on top of that it must be considered that there are only so many tier 1 and 2 jobs to go around, so if you need to place 400 on day zero, rather than 40, for instance, that could be impossible.
Our Super 30 is slightly different as it just looks at the top 30 clat ranks in each college, where the pool is the same for all (ie all 1000+ who made it into national law schools).
Wouldn't be surprised if you were the guy who posted the absolute numbers comment.
I honestly think we've written something negative about pretty much every law school out there from time to time, so unless you can back up your allegation of 'bias' with some facts, I'll assume you're just pulling my leg.
I'd also love to hear of a reason for why I'd have any bias... Are they bribing us? Giving us free lunches? Or is it just a college's general awesomeness that causes me to lose all objectivity?
You are from Bhopal aren't you? Yes you could have joined either NUJS or NLIU. As they say.. the future is always in your hands. You either make it or break it.
With today's market conditions and the entry of foreign law firms its all going to be a smooth ride for law graduates!
I mean really stupendous. But some humility about the market change and Khaitan expansion
Nontheless pride.
do you or they know better?
Not surprised - amidst all the law school rankings and this and that, my experience working with people from this college (and a few others) across 3 top-tier law firms has been excellent.
Suppose I am not able to get NLU-D (i saw its placements being great) how are these other two law schools. Family members are saying that all law schools are same NLU's but then I have often come across the Tier word. Does this tier also matter in jobs later on?
I dont mean to belittle the tier 2 colleges but they are at a dis-advantage only because they have been started later. However, they are growing faster than any other Tier ! law colleges and would be competing with the Tier 1 colleges very soon. But now its not the case...
NLU-D in my experience is excellent. The others in UP or Bihar are best avoided at this moment. You'll be better off going to ILS or Symbiosis.
Try to reason it out with your parents. Ultimately, do what's best for you.
All the best.
If these Placement figures are your driving force primarily, don't make the blunder of choosing RMLNLU/ CNLU over NLUD or over any other top NLU like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Jodhpur, Bhopal and even Gujarat.
That being said, distance is not that big a deal man, (or woman). UP is a train ride from Calcutta, a flight from Hyderabad or Bangalore. Distance is an awful metric to base your decision on - unless it's hometown. It's truly a disastrous metric. Choose on any basis, but please don't choose on the basis of distance from your hometown. My 0.02$.
Full disclosure: I graduated from NUJS, and am visiting the Legally India site after a while to kill some time !
But overall heartening as an NUJS alum who went through a really bad phase in the economy as well as administration to see how our recruitment figures are maintained over the past couple of years.
On another note, anybody from CRC/PCC/RCC will know that it is a pain in the arse to get the numbers tick after Day Zero. With 40 already in their pocket, these kids have made a fabulous start!
This also shows the respect NUJS students have in the market...with a stronger alumni base, and more students joining law firm ranks year-on-year..NUJS is, and will continue to, dominate the law firm market.
no placement ................such a shittttttttttttttt
1. Placements, including LLMs (30% weight)
2. Moots and extra curricular (10% weight)
3. Faculty and quality of courses (30% weight)
4. Campus location and security (10% weight)
5. Campus infrastructure (10% weight)
6. Reputation and student acceptance ratio (10%)
From my experience these guys are generally the least uptight. They have such a chillee time. Been these for fests and know a lot of them.and then they pullout stats like this.
I think NUJS' record of 40 total jobs (excluding foreign firm jobs) for 2016 batch one year before they graduate is going to be very difficult to break. Congrats to everyone at NUJS!
At least NUJS is always going to always remain the first law school to breach the 40 mark.
Kian, do you find a story here?
offered jobs ke figures ko accepted dikhake duniyako ullu banale walo jaanta maaf nahi karegi
