The Amarchand Mangaldas Delhi-region partnership, led by Shardul Shroff who is in the final stages of a separation with the half of the firm led by his brother Cyril from Mumbai since November 2014, on Tuesday for the first time announced internally that the firm was likely to split, subject to the outcome of the still ongoing mediation between the brothers that is set to conclude at the end of this month.
Unlike Cyril, who internally announced the impending split long ago and on 31 January called for volunteers to move to Delhi to kick off the new office there, Shardul is understood to have made no internal announcements relating to the matter until this week.
According to three independent sources, more than 10 of Shardul’s Delhi lawyers have been told they would become partners in the new firm, subject to the close of the mediation.
It is understood that earlier today each of them signed an agreement to accede to the a new partnership deed once the firms have separated.
However, while all of the new partners have been privately told of their elevation, none of the promotions have been announced within the firm yet, so Legally India was unable to confirm a complete list of names at the time of going to press.
We have reached out to Shardul for comment.
Alongside a pre-existing family office in Mumbai, Shardul is set to secure two office spaces in South Mumbai, including soon-to-be the former office of AZB & Partners in the city.
Meanwhile Cyril in Mumbai last week agreed to seven new equity partners and 12 new salaried partners, with two lateral partners already confirmed for his new firm’s Delhi office.
Both firms have already registered separate web domain names, with Shardul having bagged ShardulAmarchand.com and sssamarchand.com, while Amarchand Mumbai has registered CyrilAmarchand.com and five other domain names.

So is this some way to promote your college after all the negative press report you have been receiving since 2-3 years? Couldn't you just wish without putting up your college name? [...] So I do not know what exactly are you happy about...
+1 more BMW Z3 for my wife. A guy to come and manicure my beard everyday.
And two self published poetry books every year. Complimentary copies to be given to each associate.
Business development skills are ZERO. Grasshoppers are more resourcefull.
Interpersonal skills- well let's just say that he is a taid less mean and selfish than a certain Barakhamba Road based partner who once got called the B word in front of everyone.
Only claim to fame- kiss kiss kiss !!
SAM you need to think twice!!
But are they too young/green to be partners? I worry so. Maybe there's been just the slightest bit of uhh, grade inflation? If I were them, would I be cautious about what lies in the future, how they'll be treated by contemporaries/ seniors/ the industry? Yes, I would.

Hear some good things bout the new bunch also from their peers Monal is doing well in the capital markets space, vaibhav and abhishek are highly rated in the m&a area, harman is a star in the competition team.
Good move from SAM though to elevate everyone to partnership, keeps the spirit high. They will need it.
Sainton and Monal being good cap markets lawyer have a strong business case in their favour despite relative lack of experience
Don't know much about the others.
congratulations to all
Is Nikhil Narayan (1998 batch) Retained Partner or Equity Partner?
And remember the cash kitty rumoured to be at 700 crores that SAM is inheriting.
For how many years has Raghubir (a STAR) been a salaried partner before being promoted to equity v. the family salaried partners who have been promoted to equity at the same time.
For people who are truly brilliant, why would you stay around at this firm, to only be treated on par with the sub-optimal and entitled?
What does being a good lawyer mean? Nothing if you can't get business for your firm! Not one of these are capable of pulling in REGULAR business other than the two mentioned above. This is just a knee-jerk reaction for which SAM will regret later. Silly is an understatement.
if you can do a story, it would be great.
and considering AMSS is spliting, please give us a seprate tally for them
We've tried covering bonus in the past, but it's actually very hard to cover in any meaningful way, other than just writing, firm XYZ has announced a bonus.
We can get some anecdotal figures from a few people, but bonus will vary widely so getting something representative is tough.
We can get statements from the powers that be, but only rarely will they admit that the bonus pool is less big than before, etc.
We could ask for some mathematical data on bonuses, like mean and median percentage of annual salary, but not sure firms even have that.
What say?
etc. so there can be a meaningful and interesting study on this. Try.!
and if possible for new freshers also. i have heard that amss delhi has given 100 % bounus to Ao's
To reproduce what I wrote in another post, this reminds me of a scene from the movie The Lion King, where the hyenas (rest of the lawyer gang) shudder at the very name of Mufasa (CAM/SAM): "Muffassa, Brrrrr!!.. Mufasa, Brrrrr!!!"..
I have no 'link' to them, am minding my own little SOHO, but Hats Off nonetheless!!
