Revealed: Year’s best reads by readers on Legally India win Rs 45,000+ of cash prizes

Blogging: Cooler than writing typeg
Blogging: Cooler than writing typeg
“Better late than never” will hopefully be apt and accepted here: Legally India is pleased to finally announce the talented, witty and insightful winners from more than 12 months of our rolling blogging competition.

We know you’ll enjoy some of these fantastic reads and a heartfelt apology for the long delay!

Team LI picked through the best of reader-submitted content and whittled it down to one top blog in most months, two in some, none in others, including a few honourable mentions.

All winners (not honourable mentions, sorry) are entitled to Rs 3,500 in cash, to be paid directly into their bank account (confidentially) or, if preferred, by cheque or cash sent to secret addresses.

We will be getting in touch with winners directly – but if you won, please do send us a quick message at with your bank details (including your bank branch and IFSC digits) and we’ll do, as they say, the needful.

Going forward, we’ll try to keep up with the blogs in real time and announce a winner (blogging quality permitting) on the 1st of every month. Cash prizes of Rs 3,500 again, plus accolades and adulation of course. Check this post for further rules.

Blogging veteran napster took on the legal profession’s unpaid internship underbelly in: "I can't afford an internship." : A take on Unpaid Internships in India

Honourable mention goes to legaloldie, who wrote a lovely and insightful blog on the joys and toils of being a ‘mature’ student: Dilemmas of a middle-aged, non ranked law school student

legaloldie
legaloldie
legaloldie won the December stakes hands-down with a useful and entertaining post on vital legal reading lists: Building the essential law student’s library.

An honourable mention, which proves that flattery goes a long way, for pranushak’s creative remix of the only song of late 2011: Why this LI-giri di! - Dedicated to our beloved Legally India!

sss

Old-school student blogger sss, since graduated, provided one of the best examples of news-worthy reportage on LI blogs, shortly after the Bangalore lawyer/police riots: The ‘Advocate’ account of the darkest day at the Bangalore Bar- Take the advocate sticker off your vehicle or else…

June 2012

The bêtes noire of Indian and expat corporate law struck in June (after several months without stand-out blog entries).

nandiireywal
nandiireywal

Anagrammatically brilliant Indian lawyer abroad nandiireywal made a comeback (after cleaning up in LI’s first blogging competition in 2010), with: A Battle of Attrition (or why we quit our dream law firm jobs)

dudediligence
dudediligence

A new (dirty) star on the legal blogging horizon also caused controversy, with unabashed disrespect and below-the-belt commentary. dudediligence’s oeuvre is not quite safe-for-work and often veers into a parody of sexism, but it’s been thoroughly enjoyed by many: The 5 Stereotypes you meet at every law firm. If dudeD is your cup of tea, check out his other posts.

napster was back to finger the strings of lawyers’ social conscience and asked/ranted: Why does no one want to teach?

nandiireywal
nandiireywal
Yes, nandiireywal, whose blogging output has alas decreased since having been swallowed in the belly of the London corporate law beast, relates a tale that many an associate has probably woken up in a sweat about: How Nandii Reywal got drunk, got wild and got laid (off)

Naman Mohnot
Naman Mohnot

After a blogging drought of a few months, an awesome post by Naman Mohnot on describing the joys of legal aid. Please, we want more stories like this! Legal Aid – My Liberating Experiences

Few can best nandiireywal at his best, and this, expanding on dudediligence’s earlier stereotypes post, is a classic skewering of law firm culture by way of blog: Four types of law firm bosses we hate working for (and one that we love too much)
