NLU Delhi opened its innings at the Herbert Smith Freehills-sponsored Mooting Premier League (MPL) 6 with a bang, jumping into an early lead in the league.
Having clinched the Manfred Lachs Global championship along with the best oralist citation this time, Delhi logged a grand total of 70 inaugural MPL points.
The team’s speaker Linesh Lalwani won the Best Oralist, Sterns and Tennens Award at the moot after defeating the Florida State University College of Law in the finals.
Researcher Arshu John said: “We were fairly confident of our preparation so we were excited about it. But beyond a point, one shouldn’t take mooting too seriously, so we really were only thinking about what fun it had been reaching till here.”
He said that it was “surreal” for the speakers to get to argue before a sitting bench of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and that the semi-final against a team from Paris was the most challenging.
Delhi had broken into the semi-final of last year’s Lachs global round too but failed to win.
The Lachs global trophy was last brought to India by MPL 3, 4 and 5 winner NLSIU Bangalore, which is currently sitting at the bottom of the new MPL 6 table of 11 teams.
Editor’s note: RMLNLU Lucknow’s MPL 6 rank was erroneously reduced in our last story after certain points were missed. This has now been corrected. Also, for the avoidance of doubt, please note that the MPL 5 rulebook and list of moots also applies to Season 6. If you have any suggestions for amendments, please let us know at .

The moot has participants from the host college
Plus it has a 16 teams first come first serve policy which if not changed shouldn't make it eligible for mpl6
Second, I'm sure that the competitiveness of a moot is a fair metric for determining merits.
Secondly, RGNUL won it at the North Zonal Rounds and not the National Rounds. LI is not including zonal rounds in MPL. Only the National Rounds. RMLNLU won it there.
p.s. - I remember RMLNLU winning the North Zonal Rounds and RGNUL not even qualifying for the National Rounds. Kindly correct your records. Cheers.
