Dua promotes 3 to equity partner, 1 to non-equity

Dua Associates has promoted three to equity partner and one to non-equity partner, reported Bar & Bench citing "reliable sources".

Dinesh Mathur and Vikram Dholakia were promoted in the litigation practice in Delhi, while Srinivas BR got the nod in Bangalore's corporate practice. Senior associate Jay Badola was lifted into non-equity partnership, according to the website. [Bar & Bench]

Legally India had reported that Mathur was hired as an equity partner by Dua in 2010, citing managing partner Ranji Dua, in the aftermath of a the massive Tatva Legal breakaway from the firm.

In that case, why is he still in Dua?

If Dinesh Mathur is promoted to equity in 2010, why is he again being promoted to equity in 2014? Are there two levels of equity?

I am actually not sure - either we were given wrong information in 2010, or the present report is wrong, or they rejigged their equity somewhat...

Does anyone know?

Perhaps you should be sure before you report something.. too much to ask? Or perhaps youre now striving to be the Arnab Goswami of legal news.. in which case.. Congrats!

Dua's management generally isn't too communicative so it's a bit of a waste of time from our perspective running after that lead...

How dare they withhold information from you Kian! You show them! Just publish whatever comes to mind...
oh wait you already did.

There there... :)

We just flashed a headline, linking to what someone else published, and were transparent that it conflicted with the information from a previous report on Legally India. It's obvious that we didn't do any additional reporting on this, and I don't think the story is so important that it really needs to be followed up if the information is accurate, as it appears to be.

If our 2010 report was wrong, as the comment below suggests, I guess they gave us wrong information about Dinesh Mathur's equity status back then and didn't let us know our report was wrong after we had sent them the published copy. To be fair, it was a traumatic time for the firm back then so maybe they forgot.

So it goes...

Kian, Your 2010 report was wrong. Dinesh joined DA as a salaried partner and has been now promoted to equity. Regarding DA being less communicative, the fact remains that their major work still comes from the US and therefore they feel that they do not require the publicity which many firms try to achieve through LI. See the client details on Chambers website and you would know that you do not retain clients of such repute without having Champion lawyers..

Thanks, that's interesting.

Do you know about Munish Sharma too? We had reported in 2010 that he joined as equity also, based on information from the firm. I guess it's likely that's non-equity though...

Thanks - he became equity when he was re-hired in 2010 or he was promoted after that?

Munish was re-hired as an equity partner in 2010, but he hasn't delivered on his promises in the last 4 years and his star is pretty close to the equity nadir.
