Economic Laws Practice (ELP) has hired Bharti Airtel general counsel Jyoti Pawar to head its telecommunications, media and technology practice (TMT) in Delhi.
Pawar started her career Mulla & Mulla Craigie Blunt & Caroe in Mumbai in 1992, joining GE Capital India as a vice president legal and compliance in 2000. In 2008, as senior vice president legal and compliance at GE Money Financial Services, she joined Bharti Airtel as director legal and regulatory of India and South Asia.
She graduated from GLC Mumbai in 1992 and qualified as an English solicitor in 2003.
ELP managing partner Rohan Shah, who had been heading the firm’s TMT practice until now, said in a press release that Pawar had “built an outstanding reputation as a legal professional, and as a real force in the telecom sector”.
She is due to join in several months.

Was on a flight next to a US in-house counsel a few days ago, and he was saying how amazing his life is, bossing around lawyers, getting them to worry about the nitty gritty and being able to focus on the big picture and strategy stuff instead of getting bogged down in details.
Sounds like in-house can be a pretty sane choice, to be honest, rather than a mark of 'lack of zeal'.
But seriously, I believe she hasn't joined ELP yet though she has accepted the offer, which is fairly standard procedure in many hires, no?
