Economic Laws Practice (ELP) won for Bharti Airtel, PDS Legal for Ernst & Young (E&Y), Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan (LKS) for Ultratech Concrete, and Global Legal Associates for ITC Welcome Group in the Delhi high court on Tuesday against the Service Tax Department.
The department had appealed against the Service Tax Appellate Tribunal’s order relieving the companies of amounts demanded by the department as tax on liaison charges.
ELP Delhi partner Sonu Bhatnagar, senior associate Tarun Jain and associates Shankey Agarwal and Kshitiz Karjee acted for Bharti Airtel, having briefed senior advocate NK Kaul acted for Bharti which ws relied of a Rs 76 lakh tax liability by the appellate tribunal.
PDS Legal partner Tarun Gulati with associates Rony John, Neil Hildreth and Shashi Mathews acted for E&Y.
L&S partner MP Devnath and senior associate Aditya Bhattacharya acted for Ultratech Concrete.
Global Legal senior partner Ravindra Narain and associates Ajay Aggarwal, Mallika Joshi and Sharvani Shekhar acted for ITC Welcome Group.
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva of the Delhi high court held that the appeals were not maintainable against any of the respondents.
