The long-awaited report by the GNLU Gandhinagar review commission's third member, has completed his review of the college, with vice chancellor Bimal Patel announcing a press conference about its findings tomorrow.
The original draft report, which was prepared by NLSIU Bangalore founding vice chancellor NR Madhava Menon and former Law Commission of India member HC Dholakia, was highly critical of the administration at the college, covering areas such as a lack of professors, too-strict disciplinary rules and the background to Patel's appointment.
However, that report was not signed by a third member of the review commission - former IIM director Bakul Dholakia - who had asked for more time to submit his findings.
The re-appointment of Patel as VC, whose term was due to expire in November 2013, would depend on the details of the report, according to an executive council decision last year, which made Patel's re-appointment conditional to it seeing a copy of the report.
In May 2013 Patel had criticised Menon's report in a seven-page response, claiming he had not received a copy and that it was not researched thoroughly enough. Menon's report was understood to have included a long line of student grievances.
Patel, who was not reachable for comment, announced that Bakul Dholakia's report was completed in an email today:
It gives me great pleasure to inform you that Professor Bakul Dholakaia review commission report is ready and Dr. Dholakia and my team i.e, Dean-Academic Affairs, Deputy Dean-Academic Affairs, Registrar, Dean- Research Dept. most cordially invite you at the press conference, scheduled on Thursday, 20 February 2014 at 11.30 am at GNLU.
The theme of press conference is, "Future directions of the GNLU".
The press conference will be followed by lunch.
