Amit Sibal, Cambridge University graduate, Dayan Krishnan, public prosecutor and 1993 NLSIU Bangalore graduate, and Anup Bhambhani, have been designated senior counsel in the Delhi high court.
Sibal, who is the son of union law minister Kapil Sibal, confirmed to Legally India that he, Krishnan and Bhambhani had been designated.
Sibal obtained his LLB from Cambridge in 1994, after a philosophy, politics and economics degree from Oxford. He later completed an LLM from Harvard University and worked at Davis Polk Wardwell until 2002.
Krishnan, who graduated from NLS' first batch, was designated special public prosecutor in the 16 December 2012 Delhi gang rape case.
Punjab and Haryana high court lawyer and NLSIU Bangalore graduate Akshay Bhan was designated as a senior counsel late last month, as the first from a national law school to have been bestowed the designation at the courts.
Bhan had told Legally India that he expected Krishnan to also receive the nod soon.
More to follow. Hat tip to @spread_law which first tweeted the news of Sibal's designation

What risk you will take, After pursuing law from one of the premier law school of India, a Senior Advocate is recruited on the compensation of merely Rs. 5,000 which is not enough to full fill your basic need in capital. After and all through so called law firm slavery, you can repay your educational loan and live with some dignity...
That's why it's a risk, son.
Cheers!

Law graduates from other countries can practice in India subject to certain conditions/examinations. This is not a loophole. It makes perfect sense, because one does not need to study the laws of a particular state or country to practice there.

So again, rules tweaked for children of big guns. Point emphasized.
One of the finest lawyers of his generation. Hard working and a great orator. A chip of the ol block.
For all the sceptics, he has been practising in Delhi High Court for over 10 years and prior to that has practised in New York for several years.
And lastly for all the jibes about education, the bar council sets then rules, anyone and everyone can follow them. Cambridge is recognised by them so anyone can go there. And Amit isnt the only one. Zia Mody too has a Cambridge/Harvard education and a powerful father (Soli Sorabjee)
Amit Sib was a securities-lawyer at Davis Polk. He wasn't litigating in NYC.
frankly, it is our slavish mentality that shines through your comment..
