SC inquiry summons ex-judge’s intern alleging sexual harassment to appear on Monday

The inquiry committee of Supreme Court justices RM Lodha, HL Dattu and Ranjana Prakash Desai, who are investigating the allegation of sexual harassment by a former NUJS Kolkata student who interned with an ex-apex court judge in late 2012, convened yesterday and asked her to appear before the committee at 4:30 pm this Monday, November 18, reported The Hindu.

The paper reported that the Supreme Court’s secretary general Ravinder Maitheni notified the date in a letter to the intern, who first made her allegations in a blog and was interviewed by Legally India on Monday 11 November, before the story came to national attention when it was picked up by most major newspapers and TV channels.

By Tuesday afternoon Chief Justice of India (CJI) P Sathasivam had announced that the inquiry would be constituted. In a statement made on Tuesday evening, the graduate said that she would appear before the inquiry but requested that media respect her privacy.
