Economic Laws Practice (ELP) Mumbai partner Yashojit Mitra will join Amarchand Mangaldas Mumbai as a partner in August, while ELP will add Amarchand principal associate Vinayak Burman as an associate partner in the city.
ELP –> Amarchand
Mitra, who heads the corporate and private equity practice at ELP, has been with the firm for over seven years now. He said that moving to Amarchand as a partner in the corporate and private equity practice “was just a professional decision”.
He graduated from Symbiosis Law School Pune in 2003 and worked with DSK Legal Mumbai until 2006 when he joined ELP Mumbai.
Mitra leaves behind associate partner Darshan Upadhyay in the private equity practice, with a team of 10 lawyers under practice head and co-founding partner Suhail Nathani.
Amarchand –> ELP
Vinayak Burman graduated from Symbiosis Pune in 2005 and worked at Rajinder Narain & Co in Delhi until he joined Amarchand Mangaldas in 2007.
He is currently a principal associate in the corporate practice at the firm, with a focus on private equity and will join Naithani's team at ELP which focusses on those same practice areas.
ELP managing partner Rohan Shah and Amarchand Mumbai partner Vandana Shroff were not available for comment at the time of going to press.
In June Amarchand Delhi principal associate Kirat Nagra joined ELP Delhi as litigation partner alongside a team of nine lawyers who replenished the practice at the firm.
ELP litigation partner Tarun Gulati had left to PDS Legal with his team of 12 in April.

Ask any real trader.
Good for both the highly professional outfits.
We observed 'insight and guidance' negotiating on behalf of the counterparty. On certain points there appeared to be logical inconsistency, in essence - not thought through.
We observed 'ummmm...style(?)' to be consistenly well prepared and logically irrefutable on every point he negotiated.
Our act is to make sure we have 'ummmm...style(?)' on our side at the negotiation table.
