Dua hires ex-Freshfields lawyer, promos Robin David to equity & 3 retained partners in Singapore, Delhi

Former Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer independent consultant Priya Christian joined Dua Associates as a retained competition partner last week, while retained litigation partner Robin David was made up into equity, and three others were made retained partners.

Managers Nishant Srivastava and Nirvaan Gupta in the Singapore office and Alok Tiwari in Delhi were promoted to retained partner level.

Competition sprouts

Christian is England & Wales- and India-qualified, having started her career at the European Commission Competition Directorate’s merger task force in Brussels. She then joined Howrey LLP in Brussels, followed by Watson, Farley & Williams (WFW) in 2005 as a competition associate until 2010.

She was associated with the Brussels office of Freshfields from 2010, where she investigated and advised on global mergers in the railway, telecommunication, energy and media sectors and had worked on significant competition and merger control cases in the media, aviation and consumer business sectors, according to her former WFW profile.

David was promoted into the equity partnership, having been at Dua since 2002 as a manager in the litigation team making salaried partner that same year.

He graduated as a lawyer from Bharathiyar University in Coimbatore in 1990 and started court practice in Delhi under advocate BK Sood. Between 1996 and 2002 he worked independently and as counsel to Parekh & Co, J Sagar Associates (JSA) and advocate Manjul Bajpai.

Since 2008 David has been the Delhi high court’s legal aid counsel, sits in various Lok Adalats and is president of the Christian Legal Association of India.

Two lawyers were promoted to salaried partner in Dua’s Singapore office, which was set up in early 2010 as first reported by Legally India.

Srivastava graduated as a lawyer from Symbiosis Pune in 2000 and had previously worked with Titus & Co, Paras Kuhad & Associates and Johri & Associates. He joined Dua Associates as a manager in the Delhi office in 2007 and moved from there to the firm’s Singapore office as a manager in 2011. He specialises in corporate commercial laws.

Gupta obtained an LLB from Delhi University and an LLM from the New York University School of Law in 2009. Before joining Dua he worked with FoxMandal Little, as it was then called, and Anderson Legal, joining Dua Associates in Delhi in 2004.

In 2007 he briefly left for Jones Day, returning to Dua in Delhi in 2009 and moved to the Singapore office in 2012. He specialises in M&A, inbound investments, funds, corporate finance, and banking and finance, and is dual qualified in England & Wales.

Alok Tiwari, who specialises in litigation, was promoted in Delhi.

Dua Associates and partners who were contacted declined to comment.
