Nalsar Day Zero bags 28 offers for 2014-batch in 6 law firms & 6 overseas vac placements

Improving on last year’s fourth year ‘Day Zero’ recruitment efforts, Nalsar Hyderabad placed 25 students from the class of 78 graduating next year in Amarchand Mangaldas, AZB & Partners, J Sagar Associates (JSA), Khaitan & Co, Luthra & Luthra and Trilegal on 27 April.

AZB & Partners was the largest recruiter with six accepted job offers, while Amarchand followed with five. Khaitan, Trilegal, and Luthra each recruited four students, and two students were hired by JSA. The figures were confirmed by law firms and Nalsar’s recruitment coordination committee (RCC).

A total of six offers were pre-placement offers (PPOs) made to students who had interned at firms, apart from JSA, which did not make any PPOs.

In total, firms made 28 offers, of which 25 were accepted, according to the RCC. A total of 35 shortlisted candidates sat for interviews on day zero.

Nalsar’s RCC commented in a statement: “This was the first time in the history of the university that we had six firms conducting recruitment on our campus on a single day.”

The RCC told Legally India that Day Zero was originally scheduled for 27 and 28 April, but the entire process was wrapped up on the first day. The RCC also said that this year it would go with a policy of allowing students only a one-time option of subscribing to the campus recruitment process until the end of their final year at Nalsar, to “avoid confusion”.

It was not able to confirm the total number of RCC subscribers this year at the time of going to press.

The RCC added in its statement:

“The NALSAR RCC and Batch of 2014 is deeply grateful to the firms as well as the university administration for ensuring the entire process was carried out in an extremely smooth and efficient manner. We are particularly grateful to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Faizan Mustafa, the Registrar, Prof Vijender Kumar and the Head of the Exam Department, Prof Dhanda, for helping us organise things smoothly. For their part, the firms were very cooperative and the process was, all in all, a success that exceeded our expectations.”

History and perspective

Last year, Nalsar was the first national law school to hold its Day Zero on 7 April 2012, but had managed no more than 15 job offers, while a 29 April 2011 Day Zero of the preceding batch had netted Nalsar 29 offers.

NUJS Kolkata clinched around 20 job offers for its class graduating next year on and after 30 April 2013, Legally India reported today without confirmation from NUJS’ RCC, which had cited their vice chancellor’s gag order against disclosing fourth year recruitment figures.

This year, NLSIU Bangalore fourth-year students secured around 24 jobs on their day zero, while NLU Jodhpur received 11 offers, according to their respective recruitment committees.
