It is understood that AZB & Partners will promote corporate senior associates Nilanjana Singh and Nandish Vyas to salaried partner level in Mumbai.
Singh graduated from NLSIU Bangalore and completed an LLM at Columbia in 2010.
Vyas graduated from GLC Mumbai in 2004 and worked at Mumbai real estate boutique Federal & Rashmikant before joining AZB.
Partners at the firm declined to comment when contacted.
At the time of going to press, Legally India has no authoritative information on whether there will be any other upcoming promotions at the firm, but it is understood that the entire partnership selection process is not yet complete.
J Sagar Associates (JSA) promoted two salaried partners to equity partner level, and 18 associates to salaried partner level this week.
Khaitan & Co has so far promoted five salaried partners: three lawyers in Delhi and two AZB lateral hires in Mumbai. The equity partner promotion process at Khaitan is not yet complete.

Luthra- really? Kco, JSA and even Trilegal are miles ahead of Luthra now
Luthra is certainly way ahead of Trilegal - Any Indian lawyer knows as much. That said, KCo and JSA are certainly right after AMSS and AZB now!

Sad but true!
Just because a firm won't comment, doesn't usually mean that we won't run a story.
Also, worth considering that I don't think any news story we've published in the last four years, even if unsourced or there's been no comment from the firms involved, has turned out to be 'a gossip'.
Shame.
Kian, I'm sorry but your reply shows how little journalism and how much tabloidism you practice. Journalism starts with gossip but reporting is done on the basis of confirmed facts. A tabloid is totally based on hearsay. In both cases what is published may be true but it shows the style of journalism. I have no problem with LI being a tabloid, in fact I love it. But don't pretend this is "journalism". You are no more a journalist than an amarchand associate playing scrabble with a put option notice is a lawyer. Just have the integrity to own up to it.
On your evidentiary rules, if any report of ours is based purely on hearsay, we would clearly say that it was hearsay.
I don't think that we have ever reported any story relying purely on hearsay - in fact, we'll usually bend over backwards to get on-the-record confirmation or to give everyone involved a chance to comment, or decline to comment, as appropriate.
If we say, "it is understood", that means that Legally India understands this to be the truth, not Legally India understands this to be hearsay. Just because we don't have a quote from a partner does not make something hearsay per se (!).
Do see our editorial principles under the About menu above for a more detailed description of sourcing and more:

Kian, looks like you've picked up a little bit of drafting along the way.

Well done and good luck
The reason we entertain such comments sometimes are twofold.
For one, if law firms and others are criticised (mildly) in the comments, then at the very least, we too should be open to criticism.
Second, rather than merely being trolls some comments might actually have genuinely misunderstand Legally India's purpose or some basic tenets of journalism. In such a case, I hope my responses can at least make one person think a little bit more about journalism and maybe spread the word.
Best wishes,
Kian
What is regrettable is how many good partners have quit AZB in the last few years. Akshay Chudasama (now JSA), Shobhan Thakore (now TTA), Vineetha MG (own practice), the list goes on.....
All these would have given AZB a terrific edge had they remained, in which case it truly might have been AZB and not Chambers of Zia Mody.
