Exclusive: Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan (LKS) moved to a new 15,000 square feet Bangalore office in the World Trade Centre (WTC) from its Anand Rao Circle office on Friday (8 June).
Executive partner Shivadass G, who heads the 30-lawyers strong Bangalore office, said that the firm was facing space constraints in the old 5,000 square feet office and that the new office also boasted better in-house facilities, including audio-and video-conferencing rooms and projectors.
While until now Bangalore had primarily dealt with tax and intellectual property work, the firm was planning to expand to become a corporate practice in Bangalore, said Shivadass.
He said: “Software companies, any of the big multinational companies – they felt that the work done by the team on taxes was so good that they will also like us to expand to other areas as well.
“We want it to be essentially a one stop solution.”
The new fourth floor in Bangalore’s WTC is the firm’s third new office space in the last six months.
On 12 December 2011, the firm had set up an office in Pune, while on 12 March 2012 it launched a second office in Delhi.
The firm has eight offices in seven cities, with 250 lawyers.

The unpublished comments were regarding a suggested change of picture, which we have now made...
In hindight, perhaps it wasn't the most appropriate fit with the story and clearly upset some readers so we changed the photo to something rather boring after a few minutes.
But in defence, and on a bit of a tangent, 2001 was also a long time ago - how long does it take before a picture of the NY twin towers becomes just another picture of a building that can be used fairly neutrally?
In any case, I thought it was not really worth anyone's time to start this off-tangent discussion since it has nothing to do with the story and is only likely to upset readers more, so is it ok we leave it at that?

No? Why, because the terrorism and tragedy these places were struck with were lesser in degree? Because lesser lives were taken? Are you suggesting that the importance of human lives is measured in terms of a count? What about Kashmir and Kabul then?

We generally only use photos published under a creative commons licence or that are in the public domain, or in some cases photos we have acquired the rights to.
True fact, even though it is status quo amongst many blogs to rip off images, give attribution to the original (or not) and hope no one ever complains.
Technically, however, this violates copyright laws.
1) While the firm is growing and expanding, how much are the firm's key/top people growing? What are there salaries and housing situations?
2) How many experienced people does the firm has? It either has juniors whose experience ranges from 0-4 years or seniors whose litigation experience ranges from 14-20 years. There is no one at the middle level who can either guide & groom the juniors, while the seniors does not have time to respond to the clients or undertake consulting.
3) The juniors are so loaded with work that they are missing the golden time to develop their skills and mental faculties. Only selected individuals are given focus oppotunities and limited work load to develope themselves while other juniors are left to fend for themselves.
4) The partners position to various people is such a sham! Who amongst the so-called partners is an equity partner (or anything close to it)? None. Rather under the partnership act, the firm is creating a trouble for itself by holding out other people as its partner
5) Who amongst the seniors would be the next leader? There is simply no growth in the firm.
Everything in the firm centers around one person Mr. Lakshmikumaran. There is lack of leadership. Even if some one is named as a leader, then that Leader is also not able to act independently for there is no real independence to act - either he gets prior approval/instructions or waits for such approval before proceeding.
I am told that now after the designation of Mr.Sridharan as Senior Advocate, there is really leadership crisis in the Firm. The son though has been in the firm, still in experienced and is far junior to other seniors, and thus not in a position to command real professional respect, though one may respect him as being son of the owner of the Firm.
The hard fact is there is no growth in the firm.
The juniors are being brought into the firm with lot of promises and career opportunities. But after coming into the firm people realise that not only they get much less compensation than what is available to others elsewhere; their work load is mind-blogging and they have to spend more than 14-15 hours a day and in the end they do not get any career upgradation! Can any one believe that even after such efforts on the part of the juniors, even annual increments are being denied to them!! Even the annual increments and bonus are pittance compared to the revenue each of the attorney generates for the Firm.
No wonder the Firm seems to be amassing wealth for itself at the cost of others.
That is why both some partner level professionals and also middle level professionals are leaving the firm. Even new entrants are also leaving the firm after say one or two years stay. Probably the firm also likes such attrition - for at one level it sends a message to other seniors that it does not matter to it if they leave; when middle level is not there to such extent its expenditure is reduced; thirdly the juniors can be plied for certain number of years and this cycle can go on.
Very recently one of the very efficient, effective and versatile partner level professional Mr. Puneet Bansal left the organization to join BMR Associates (as reported in Legally India) - because of lack of higher career growth. The Firm does not seem to be really concerned about such developments though it very much knows the reasons why people are leaving.
But that determination, commitment and hard work has actually come from a number of persons, who may be now getting expressly sidelined.
And those efforts cannot justify the fundamental beliefs of the leadership vis-a-vis the staff, firm's policies and/or its inactions:
i) nobody stops a firm to treat its juniors as its employee, but then give them the facilities due to them - say, the dinner and transport for staying late, mentoring & guidance, clearly defined path for knowledge & experience gain and the firm's role in that etc.
ii) equal opportunities to assignments for every junior instead of giving the key assignments to selected few while keeping them away from mundane work. Further, comparing those few & applauding them as role models in front of all other juniors in utter disregard of their time and efforts in the repetitive assignments which brings the regular revenue. For those who are the favourite of the leadership, all assignments and guidance are available. The leardship need to stop discriminating and let everyone be tested, guided and mentored equally. You can't keep people to do mundane assignments while projecting them the image of a great career ahead.
i am sure such problems would be existing in other firms also but both of the previous posts above this comment only highlight the current (and serious) issues which need attention.
Its not about questioning that the firm's achievements, but about the cost of achievments and the roadmap for the future.
