Sridhar told Legally India that he had received communication around 1:00pm today from the VC’s office that his appointment as registrar had been revoked by the chancellor.

He said that the development was sudden and reasons were not supplied to him.

Sarma is a “subject expert” who selects professors at Nalsar and several other law colleges, and is also a member of the planning board, general council and academic council at Nalsar.

Outgoing Nalsar VC Prof Veer Singh, who is set to join the Chandigarh Judicial Academy shortly, and Sarma were not reachable for comment.

The Nalsar Act, which in Section 18 lays down the procedure for the appointment of registrar, does not appear to specify a procedure for ending registrars’ appointments.

Newly-appointed Nalsar VC Prof Faizan Mustafa, who is presently NLU Cuttack in Orissa (NLUO) VC, is not yet involved in Nalsar’s internal functioning until he assumes his post at the university, according to a source close to NLUO.

The source said that it was not yet decided whether Mustafa would be able take up Nalsar office from 1 April, as originally scheduled.

Sridhar and Sharma were among the several faculty members whose names appeared in last year’s judges’ committee report on Nalsar, several paragraphs, alongwith a downloadable copy, of which were reproduced by Legally India, earlier this year.
