CNLU Patna defeated Campus Law Centre Delhi in the finals of the 28th Bar Council of India Moot hosted by NLU Delhi. Nalsar Hyderabad and Symbiosis Law School, Pune finished semifinalists in this Tier 3 MPL moot.
Nishant Jethra from Campus Law Centre, Delhi and Madhupreetha Elango, ILS Pune won the best speaker awards for the male and female categories respectively.
After the moot, CNLU Patna and Campus Law Centre, Delhi moved six places up in the MPL 3 Standings, from the 24th to the 18th position and from the 14th to the 8th position respectively.
The CNLU team consisted of speakers Girijapati Kaushal, Vibhanshu Srivastava and researcher Ravi Prakash. Kaushal said that the moot win was more than a good experience for the team. “It was a life-changing event,” he said. “We won BCI. What else we could we have thought of?”
MPL 3 Quicklinks:
Kaushal mentioned that the judging quality was consistently good throughout the moot. “The judging was marvellous. The judges were down to earth. One interesting experience that we had was that in almost every round, we had one actual judge on the bench. It was nice to have members of the Indian judiciary adjudging every other round.”
Kaushal said that the second round was the toughest round in the moot. “In the second round, only 4 teams were selected out of 26 teams for the semis. We faced HNLU Raipur in this round. The round made the moot quite challenging, though I admit, it makes luck a very important factor in the moot.”
The moot problems in each round of the four rounds of the competition were based on Contract law, Family law, Media law and Law of torts. “The problems were very meticulously drafted and tested one’s knowledge and application of the law. We found it very enjoyable.” Kaushal specifically mentioned that the CNLU Patna won the moot based on comparative performance of other teams. “This win did not benchmark our quality, but this win is a benchmark which we will be chasing in future.”
Sarvajeet from NLU Delhi confirmed the results and said that 49 teams participated in the moot. There was no best memorandum award in the moot. This is the second BCI moot this season, as a part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the BCI. The first BCI moot was hosted by Nirma University in February, where Nalsar Hyderabad defeated SOEL Chennai to win the moot.

Thanks!
Cheers,

Siddhartha Luthra - I dint enjoy the fun of judging any moot final. I hope to see better competition and energy in the next version of BCI Moot
B.S. Chauhan - Energy and preparation level was low, I was prepared with much more cases than teams have actually used.
Wants to hear anything more about BCI.
Quoting out of context will not deny the fact that CNLU is the winner of the most prestigious national moot court. Also CNLU student Girijapati Kaushal was judged as the best speaker by the same judges.
Show some respect for the national winners.
judging was abysmal....
In any case, the moot concluded late yesterday and we have official organiser confirmation now of the full results.

You will appreciate that we can not publish a story without organiser confirmation of all results, and we generally try to get quotes from winners, which takes a while particularly when competitors are abroad.
The latest news are updated on our MPL Facebook page- please follow this for the latest MPL breaking news as they come in: www.facebook.com/mooting.in
