Kochhar wins GAIL panel place after tender

Kochhar & Co has won state-owned gas and transmission company GAIL’s contract for rendering of legal services over other co-bidders and qualifiers of technical round such as Amarchand Mangaldas, Trilegal, Singhania & Partners, Fox Mandal and APJ – SLG, said the firm.

Kochhar & Co bagged the tender by quoting a comparatively lower bid after having fulfilled the requisite criteria of possessing sufficient experience in handling litigation and regulatory matters pertaining to the Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board Act and the Electricity Act in the technical round, explained Delhi-based partner Ngangom Junior Luwang.

Luwang, who was hired less than a year ago by the firm, led the team and said that more than money it was better technical skills which played an important role in winning the bid.

“The scope of services under the award includes vetting of legal documents, rendering legal opinions and appearances before the PNGRB Board, High Courts and the Supreme Court,” the firm noted in a statement on this one-year old renewable contract.

GAIL floated the tender on 28 January 2011 and the process reached conclusion on 21 February 2011.
