ALMT brings Bryan Adams to India despite ‘archaic laws’

ALMT Legal partner Hitesh Jain advised the organising company of Canadian crooner Bryan Adams’ India tour that kicked off in Mumbai and Pune last weekend.

Hitesh Jain along with ALMT Mumbai associates Siddhi Ghatlia and Pallavi Satpute, represented free of charge the event organiser Netsurf Entertainment, which is run by his brother Sujit Jain.

Saturday’s (12 February) concert was held at the MMRDA area in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), which Hitesh Jain explained had complex interplay between its own regulations and those of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM).

He added: “Bombay has very archaic laws, such as entertainment duty, which is 25 per cent that is paid in advance. The promoter or the organiser carries a huge risk and liability - you have to pay the production cost, have to pay the entertainment duty and everything, traffic licences, menu licences, sound pollution laws.”

The legal work started in August, he said, beginning with the contractual agreement with the Adams team, concert and venue deliverables and transportation of 20 tonnes of equipment from Canada.

Hitesh Jain said that roughly $10,000 of event profits were donated to Adams’ charity and roughly $50,000 to Save the Children India through corporate VIP ticket sales.

Adams perform at Pune last Friday (11 February), Mumbai on Saturday, Bangalore on Sunday, New Delhi on Tuesday and Hyderabad on Wednesday.
