According to an announcement uploaded on the BCI’s website and dated yesterday by BCI chairman and solicitor Gopal Subramanium: “The Bar Council of India (‘BCI’) has received a total of 22,267 applications for the AIBE and preparatory materials have already been dispatched to each of these candidates. Admit cards to each candidate will be dispatched by February 15, 2011.”

However, a currently undisclosed number of candidates had filled in forms incorrectly, continued the letter. It said that the names were already published on the BCI website but Legally India could not confirm that this list had been uploaded at the time of going to press. Candidates whose applications were faulty would have until 8 February to correct the mistakes if they wanted to appear on the 6 March exam.

A list of candidates whose materials had been returned and not delivered would be published on the BCI’s website and candidates should contact the BCI by telephone if they had not yet received materials (011-49225022 for English or 011-49225023 for the Hindi helpline).

The BCI has also added two new languages to write the exam in: Punjabi and Assamese.

On 29 October 2010, two days before the application deadline of 15 November, 16,000 applications had been received.
