Exclusive: Delhi law firm Zeus Law Associates has expanded with a second office in the National Capital Region (NCR) area, opening a branch office in Gurgaon to leverage infrastructure development and SEZ related market opportunities.

The firm has taken on a 3,000 square foot-area on a floor in Time Tower on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road and plans to relocate approximately 12 to 15 advocates to the new office to commence work on 19 November.

Partner Vivek Kohli said that servicing existing corporate clients as well as reaping benefits of a buoyant infrastructure development in the region were the two-fold objectives behind this strategic move.

Kohli told Legally India: “We do a lot of work in real estate and taxation in Gurgaon, our lawyers are already handling a sizable work in infrastructure projects and indirect taxes in that region.

“More importantly, Gurgoan has come up as a commercial hub where many industrial houses and corporate have established offices.”

Managing partner Rohit Tandon added: ‘‘We had set ourselves the goal of having a new office up and running in 2010. Establishing our presence in Gurgaon is a thrilling moment for us and for everyone associated with ZEUS to have achieved this.’’

Kohli explained that the firm has worked worked for HSIIDC (Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation) on its Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway and the Reliance SEZ. “There’s going to be a lot of development along the western peripheral highway (KMP) which is an eight-lane highway connecting the major areas of NCR like Faridabad and Gurgaon without entering Delhi, would be a super-fast.”

“Also, the Reliance SEZ worth Rs 20,000 crores would provide world class infrastructure, we’re looking at an integrated township rather than an industrial township alone. A dedicated freight corridor is coming up there starting from Jhaggar village to Mumbai that will trifurcate and connect three to four ports. It is a 1,440 km long high speed double carriage corridor backed by the Japanese,” added Kohli.

“This project would lead to massive industrialisation along the areas it’ll connect just like the growth HBJ pipeline brought about in the regions from wherever it passed.”

The members of corporate and infrastructure teams along with some lawyers from the litigation department of Zeus would be seated in the new Gurgaon office, noted Kohli. The firm would also either hire somebody senior for the Gurgaon office or invite someone to join as a partner in charge.

He added that the firm would likely to open a Chandigarh and Mumbai office next within a time span of 18-24 months.

Zeus has network offices in cities like Jaipur, Mumbai and Bangalore while its head office is located in Greater Kailash Part I in South Delhi.
