Trilegal has promoted the second woman to its partnership, as Bangalore corporate senior associate Kosturi Ghosh has swelled the senior ranks to 16.

Ghosh has joined Trilegal's Bangalore in 2002 from law school in ILS Pune, shortly after the firm was started up in 2001.

Her practice focuses on general corporate law and corporate advisory work in the technology space.

She said she was very excited about the promotion but added: "Of course life will get harder [as a partner] but it will be a different kind of game."

Last year the firm promoted four partners, including its first female partner Charandeep Kaur in Delhi, and increased salaries and bonuses.

Bangalore employment and corporate lawyer Ajay Raghavan was also promoted to the partnership in the same 2009 promotion round. He had also joined Trilegal right when it was first set up in 2001.

Ghosh is the second woman to join Trilegal's partnership of 16, and like Kaur, she also took maternity leave two years ago after she gave birth to her child.

She said that it was difficult juggling the twin commitments. "It was quite hard to go off on leave for a while and come back," she recounted.  "I've had to take it a little easy and step-by-step but I've always wanted to come down this route."

"I've got sort of flexible hours and I can work from home when I want to," she added. "To that extent [Trilegal is] quite good and there are no questions asked, there is no sort of red tapeism. As long as I do my work and all work is done."

Trilegal co-founding partner Anand Prasad said that there were likely to be further partnership promotions before the end of this financial year on 31 March, although some might get deferred until afterwards.

"The default is that we do it on an annual basis," he said, "but to deal with various situations we also sort of do some promotions as we go along."
