Luthra & Luthra Delhi partner Aniket Sengupta has relocated to its Mumbai office, as part of the firm's plans to further strengthen its presence in the financial capital.

Sengupta has moved full-time to Mumbai and will continue focusing on his specialty of aviation and banking finance.

He said: "It's part of the plan for growth and the expansion plan that we have for our Bombay office."

He added that most of his clients were in any case based in Mumbai. "In any case I am doing mostly Bombay work," he said, "plus it gives me an opportunity to contribute to further growth of the Bombay office."

"It's a good opportunity for me."

Sengupta had been with Luthra & Luthra since 2003, having graduated from NLSIU Bangalore in 2000.

The firm's founder Rajiv Luthra said: "He's a veteran with the firm and he's a good, solid asset."

He added that Luthra & Luthra already had a robust aviation practice in Delhi but Sengupta would now take that practice forward in Mumbai too.

Sengupta has joined three other Mumbai-based partners who are heading an office of around 25 lawyers.

Luthra explained that he would like to grow the Mumbai office with significant junior lateral hires this year, including associates who had already been offered jobs out of law school, as well as considering other relocations where possible.

Capital markets partner Manan Lahoty had also moved to Mumbai when he first joined the firm as a group head one year ago to focus on expanding the capital markets practice outside of Delhi, where he originally hailed from. He was promoted to partner in Mumbai two months ago.
