Supreme Court has agreed to hear former Delhi Law Minister and Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti’s plea for protection from arrest in a domestic violence case filed by his wife on Monday, September 28.

The Special Leave Petition to Appeal which was filed on Wednesday evening, was mentioned before a bench of CJI HL Dattu and Justice Amitava Roy on September 24.

Upon mentioning, bench ordered:

List on 28th September, 2015 in Court No. 1.

Case No. Special Leave Petition (Criminal) No. 8183 of 2015
Case Title Somnath Bharti v. State (Govt of NCT Delhi)

Bharti was represented by Senior counsel Pramod Swarup.

Delhi HC observed charges to be serious, dismissed bail plea

High Court had earlier dismissed Bharit’s plea observing that the charges against him were “very serious”.

While dismissing his bail application, Delhi High Court held:

In the present case, the allegations against the petitioner are very serious. The case against the petitioner is under Sections 307/313/324/498-A/406/417/420/506/511/34 IPC.

Keeping in view the law discussed above and the peculiar facts and circumstances of the case, this Court does not find any merit in the instant petition.
